Las Vegas: Worst Mass Shooting in US History

"Gun show loophole" is a misnomer.

The "loophole" is that private party to private party sales do not require a background check. That's the loophole.

Any licensed gun dealer has to run background checks on all gun sales. At a gun show or anywhere else.
I'm aware that is the law. I'm also aware that people sale guns illegally quite often. I have bought multiple guns and own guns, I have never gone through a background check to buy one. My friend's dad owns multiple fully automatic guns. He converts many semi's but he has also purchased many through back channels and gun shows in Utah that are great place for making those contacts.

Bruh.

You aren't buying a fully auto rifle at a gun show without a proper license.
Well I have witnessed it here. I'm aware that's the law but that does not mean it doesn't happen which is my original point, that current laws need to be better enforced.

What about the rest of those? People aren't converting guns? People aren't purchasing them through back channels?

What a stupid post

just as stupid as banning guns.

because guns are not the problem. mental health is. over prescription is the problem!

all those drugs, have lots of side effects! 80% of americans are on some kind of drug. not saying ban drugs, but maybe just look into that. before going the venezualan and national socilaist way and start banning guns. becuase it will not help. and will lead to a slippery slope.

their whjere a lot less mass shooting in the 90's 80's and 70's when the gun laws where more lax!

So even with all of the regulations and laws already in place black market gun buying is still happening.

What changes do you propose that would stop or severely limit black market gun buying?

I've quoted gun show loophole with my political agenda about 1,000 times but now I claim I am aware of the law, which i obviously am, an now I am backtracking with this weak *** cover response.

I am going to submit copyright for cover response an add weak *** to it in Ronold Mexico's name.

Banning conversion kits and curbing that would be my first step.

As far as other steps go I'm not sure. I'll speak with an agent with an agent with ATF tomorrow who has complained about firearm laws not being properly enforced and see what he says.

One thing I know is that ATF has almost 0 online presence and does not do use much online for tracking things, that needs to change. The person I know is trying to do that for them and has his master's degree in cyber security but they won't allow him to do much with it so he is looking to switch to FBI.

Most of my info is based on my experience and the experience of this agent. So it is anecdotal. Maybe it's less of wide scale issue than I think.

So why not call the loophole what it is? Saying there is a gun show loophole implies that gun shows are not operating under the same set of rules that all other gun sales follow, and that is completely false. The majority of gun sales at a gun show require a background check. There is NO gun sale at a gun show that would normally need a background check but doesn't need one because the sale happens at a gun show. It is a misleading term for what the actual problem is.

I believe it is because if you ask random people "would you be in favor of closing the gun show loophole?" you'll get more support than if you ask "would you be in favor of requiring a background check on all gun sales from one private party to another private party where a licensed gun dealer is not involved?" Obviously one rolls off the tongue a little easier.

I agree those are issues but that doesn't mean other things are not issues. Also it doesn't have to be a slippery slope that is simply fear mongering to claim that.

FWIW, it was not on "my" internet. It was not the top of "my" google search.

Google creates a profile of you and feeds you the things it thinks you want to hear.

that is what worries me. their will be no common sense that way. because common sense comes from what we have in common!

I am not backtracking. Gun shows are a major issues as well. The loophole that they use is a problem. Allowing gun dealers to operate the same way as private dealers in a gun show setting allows people to get around background checks and allows operating gun dealers to sell guns to people without background checks.

Personally I think all gun sales should require a background check. But at the very least gun shows should not be allowed to sell guns in mass through this loophole. There is a reason these places are so popular. It also allows for very easy ways for laws to be ignored such as selling fully automatic guns but more often just parts to make them yourself or conversation kits.

Doubling down

I own guns and want to continue to own my guns. I don't want guns taken away.

But why would you need more than one hand gun with 6 bullets for self defence? What if government offers to buy it from you for lets say 10k per gun? You would still rather keep them all?
