Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

Since we're continuing with burgers and basketball, could someone give a cliff notes version for those of us who aren't going to bother looking it up?

The dilemma that others have mentioned between Lauri's success and our tanking/team building is something I dislike. For me personally it makes the league less compelling when Lauri having the season he's had, and as a result winning games, can be seen as a bad thing or that the best thing to do is trade him anyways. I enjoy the league more when it means something to win and it's not better to lose. When winning is seen as a negative symptom or byproduct, it makes me less interested in the league. Because this is what I enjoy about, HH decided that it must be because I dislike basketball. I swear I enjoy basketball, but he has decided for me.

That's fair, but not at all what happened.

What if I told you that I like basketball, but enjoy when the games are important more than when the result of the game is unimportant. To me, the competition aspect is a big reason why I like basketball. Would you tell me I don't enjoy basketball? That is exactly the dumb conversation that was had lol.
That is a nice what if... but what you said was the NBA was ruined for you... cool. I know you said you can't stand watching college basketball... okay.

Now maybe you were just being overly whiny and dramatic but it would be fair to say - Maybe you don't like basketball? Which is what I suggested and clearly it struck a nerve.

I simply suggested that someone that says the NBA is ruined for them and they can't enjoy it might not be that into basketball. That means that I can read thoughts and am clearly incorrect.

Yeah I must really hate basketball because I dislike the NBA and college basketball because of the diminished quality and/or importance of the basketball being played. But why am I trying to reason? You don't care about the reason why I like or dislike something. You decide for me.

I'm gonna go ahead and put kqwin on ignore... that way I don't have to hear the whining and yall don't have to get sidetracked with this nonsense.

That is actually crazy. Look at all of the guys he’s ahead of there at the bottom left.
When he catches and shoots its hard to close out and give a real contest because he's so tall.

I want to put limits on him as a volume scorer because he isn't nearly as "on-ball" as most volume scorers but I think that might be wrong. I've just never seen a glow up quite like this.

He has a high release which allows him to get the ball off quickly and nobody is guarding that.

A lot of people mentioning he could be a superstar or whatever, or that he’s on a good trajectory but needs to hit some higher levels. But what if he doesn’t get better but simply maintains? If he just maintains, it’s pretty similar to Dirk numbers.

He's not the passer that Dirk was. I don't think he is the creator Dirk was either. The scoring numbers are getting a little inflated these days. With all that said...

Maintaining at 25/8 with bonkers efficiency while not dominating the ball? I will take that **** all day! He can score like that it allows others to put up "star" level production as well. Not to comp him to Gordo, but when you had Gordo and Rudy you had efficient guys that could be the best versions of themselves and allow guys to have a star like effect that may not be stars. I'm not sure I'm making sense... but you can add another volume scorer and nothing is taken off the table from either guy. Give me an efficient off ball player that gets 25 a game over average efficiency guy that gets 30 a game... even if that guy picks up a few more assists.

I guess what I'm kind of getting at... Lauri getting 25/8 is different than when Randle all of a sudden was scoring at that volume. The way Randle plays its disruptive to the offense. Lauri gets his within the flow of the offense... have seen him be a bit more aggressive lately but not dominating the ball at all. I'd rather have him stay at this level of production and efficiency than sacrifice those qualities to get a little more volume.

Im counting 7 guys to his left. So he is the best shotmaker despite taking 8th most difficult shots.

I wonder how on-ball guards and wings would compare. Surely they stretch the scale left at least and likely Steph and Don stand out from the pack as well.

Edit:
Also Trae would be all alone in absolute bottom left corner. Worst shotmaker and most difficult shots. Gee.. I wonder if those two are connected...
