Lauri + Tank

He would have to take a huge leap just to be neutral. If he leaps all the way from where he was to "killing guys" then who gives a **** about the tank. The point of the tank is not to lose... the point of the tank is to find top tier young talent. If Key is that then we good. Progress is normally incremental.

With the role he's put in, it makes it hard for him to be neutral in the first place. A big reason why he was one of the worst players in the league was his outsized role. Being a high usage, ball dominant player is one of the hardest things to do in the league. I don't think we're slowing down on Key's usage. Anyone who can play in that role well as a starter is a star player. If unearthing a star player ruins the tank, why do we even care? I don't think anyone is upset that Lauri turned out to be a star.

A more interesting question surrounds Sexton, IMO, who has obviously had stretches of being a star. If he's a star player, obviously we want him. But if he falls short of that and is just a very good player...I think those are the types where you would rather just have a very good player's weight in future draft picks.

If the Jazz plan to tank, I’d like to see them start the season by rolling out a lineup of Keyonte George, Cody Williams, Lauri Markkanen, Taylor Hendricks and Walker Kessler in the starting lineup. Go ahead and bring Sexton, Clarkson, Juzang, Collins and Eubanks off the bench, but leave the bulk of winning or losing in the hands of the young guys.

Not that it matters (i dont have mystical powers), but we should be hoping none of our young guys make a leap right?
Young guys making a leap is good

Young guys sucking which results in a better chance and getting a franchise player in next year's draft is also good.

Also, don't forget, teams sit their players at an inordinate rate against Utah. Despite heavy tanking last year the Jazz were above .500 at home

Paradoxically i am less excited about this season after re-signing Lauri

This will be an awkward year for sure. I'm excited to watch Lauri because he is so good. I'm excited to watch our young guys for growth/potential. I'm not excited for losses or feeling conflicted when we win.

I do think lauri is a great player and understand why the jazz kept him. Add a good pg and he could make another mid career leap a la steve nash. I just think we needed to pick a lane and we picked the wrong one

Keyonte - Sexton - Collier - Mills
Williams - Clarkson - Juzang
Hendricks - Svi - Sensabaugh
Markkanen - Collins
Kessler - Eubanks - Filipowski

This ^ is the key to the tank. Play the young guys A LOT. Bring vets off the bench. Make opportunistic trades with Sexton, Clarkson and Collins if any come available. I still believe. . .

I would argue that we chose the one option that isnt committing to a lane. Trading Lauri (hard tank) or going for win now moves arent off the table, both are just pushed down the road.

You may not like it, but I think the big jackpot the FO sees is that we manage to get a top pick and add him to a core of Lauri and a bunch of young guys. Getting lucky next draft could put us somewhere between 2023 Magic and OKC and we would effectively have done what OKC did = tank with an all star on the roster. We just need our "Chet or Paolo".

And if we dont get lucky in the next lottery, then what is stopping them from actually pivoting to the lane you want and going for Dybantsa / Boozer in the next draft?

Think i like dybantsa better than anyone in this draft. Thats a good point
