Layoff Advice

Haha. I just wanna keep the company name and position to myself for now. :D

Nice work. That was pretty fast. You must have put you are a member of Jazzfanz on your resume. When I lived in Utah I had a job with Procter & Gamble that was pretty similar.

Door to door toilet paper sales rep? Sounds cool.

Can you hook me up with one of those gigantic 30' wide roles the factory makes before chopping them down? I want one shrink wrapped for a front yard monument. Dead serious.

Something like that. The job was actually quite a pain because P&G has so many damn products to deal with. Laundry detergent, deodorant, gilette razors, hair care, duracell, pepto, tissues, diapers, pet food and even coffee.

We negotiated pricing with the stores based on product placement in the stores. I worked with store management to ensure product was properly displayed, etc. It seems I had product on nearly every aisle. I worked remotely and did not have any one checking on me, so it was a pretty sweet gig coming out of college, but I am glad I didn't have to do it too long.

Arch,

Please strongly consider what you are posting on Facebook.

Love,
Quin's Hair

I don't see your facebook but he is absolutely right and should be repped by every single jazzfanzer for this post. Facebook is an evil thing, not kidding. It has caused way more pain than good, imo. Everyone should be VERY aware of what they are posting and their audience, which is actually unknown in the world of Likes and Pokes. People can and will search you out, and it will stick. I no longer facebook for this very reason, and I am trying to wean my family off of it.

edit: You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to QuinSnydersHair again.

I have just seen this thread and read the whole thing.
As I was reading, I had this feeling that a personal drama was unfolding in front of my eyes, just like watching movies.
and in films you have this expectation that things will turn out to be good at the end.
I am very happy for Archie Moses for he found his "fream job".
I wish him all the best.

PS: This thread rocks. I am/have been planning to go back to college to study computer engineering or GIS and Mckell's experience has been an eye-opener.

As a Norwegian, I obviously have no advice. But, I am curious as to what your alternatives are? Here in communist Norway - as you Americans would call it - we get 12 months of 100% salary - when we`re laid off. Do you just stop getting your salary in July?

Yes, the workers get screwed in capitalist system. Usually if you are a salaried employee, you get two weeks for every year of service. If you are an hourly employee, usually you get one week for every year. The only guys who get taken care of are the upper management, usually VPs and Directors, but each company has their own policies.

I have experienced layoffs, I didn't get laid off but my company went through them. It sucks on both sides, we cut the employees but the remaining people just got everyone else's work and usually moral is lower and management starts freaking out and no one is allowed to complain. We should be grateful we still have a job (which we are but the new environment sucks), I would have eventually gotten the pink slip if I had stayed because a year after I left they outsourced our whole IT group to India.

Are you screwed, that depends on your experience, age and the state you live in. Start networking with friends, let them know that you were laid off (I know it is embarrassing), use state facilities (employment center), realize that you are not the only one in this situation, take care of your self (don't let the stress make it worse), eat healthy, exercise and take the time to reevaluate your work goals. Take your unemployment benefits is you have to do so, but if the days turn into weeks and into months.. you may have to take part time work or get two part time jobs.. welcome to America.

I'm not sure what he's talking about to be honest.

eh? Tell me now.

Maybe the nude pics with your Wang in one hand and a big sign with the name of your new company in the other and that Miley Cyrus tongue hanging out was a bit much.

I was extended a job offer for a dream job this morning and.... I accepted. I am very excited about this position and it seems things could not have turned out any better than it has.

I would like to thank everyone on here who has taken time to help me in this process. This past month as been a roller coaster and incredibly stressful. I managed to keep my chin up high and have a good attitude about the situation, but if this would have happened 6 months earlier I probably would have broke.

I know I don't have the best track record on here, but it's very humbling to see how many members on here sincerely reached out to me to help me in the job hunt or just to talk. What an awesome group of people! I specifically would like to thank KEK (Quinshair), LogGrad, Cope, Colton (thanks for giving me your number. I've made sure to add it to as many telemarketing lists as possible. hehepeepeecaca), Olden_Undercover, Stoked, and everyone who contributed something positive to this thread. I am beyond thankful and honestly feel I was prepared for my interviews to land the job because of advice I received from this lovely bunch of random internet people. You guys rock!

*major fist pump action* :D
Awesome! Congrats. I'm sincerely glad if anything I did helped you.

I think Quin is over analyzing things about my facebook. First, it's on private. Second, I haven't bashed/named the company I worked for beforehand (in fact my boss liked my status where I posted I was laid off and actively looking for a job.) Third, I posted I had an interview for a job I was really excited about. And lastly, I posted I got the job.

I know, what a dumb thing to do. I told friends/family a little about my personal life. I need a talk from Quinshair now.
