Lebron and Mello to the Jazz?

Why not? We got cap space and some decent young talent. Just win now baby.

He's probably just trolling, but it doesn't hurt to aim big. Utah is not a free agent destination, but they do have cap space and assets that a lot of other teams don't have. Just logistically, they probably could do one or the other, but not both since they don't have much in salary to give back to either team in a sign and trade.

There's no room for a discount. If a MAX guy comes to Utah, they'd expect full value on their contract if they came here. That's starting at around $22 million for the first season. They have about $35 million in committed salary right now (including Hayward's cap hold.) Not going to happen, but this is a part of the challenge that DL faces. Getting guys to want to play in Utah.

That's why they shouldn't be too eager to get rid of good players who actually enjoy being here. Derrick Favors and Aaron Gordon (when they pick him) are guys who can help change that trend IMO.

It sounds like Lebron's wife is trying to get him back to Cleveland because it's a "good family environment." Well it that's the criteria Salt Lake City beats Cleveland hands down in the "family environment' category. Denver was too small for Melo and I can see him chafing in SLC but if they could get one domino perhaps the second would follow.

If they could get one domino named LeBron James, there aren't many dominoes in the NBA that would not follow. It's worth the effort of a phone call. Hell, I'd be happy if they came to Utah and used them to drive up the price somewhere else. I don't want that in perpetuity, but they need to dispel this image that Utah is a bad place to live. Even if they can't get him - have no shot at it - I want other potential max guys to stop crossing it off their lists before they get traded/opt out.

Kanter's contract is killing the Jazz' chance at LBJ-Melo.

I don't even think she was talking about moving back there, but just heading home for their summer vacation. People are looking for anything positive or negative to fit their agenda, so they made a huge deal out of it.

The plain and simple fact is that the Jazz have almost no likelihood of ever bringing LeBron James to Utah. He's arguably the best player in the NBA. With that said, I think that you still make the effort to pitch yourself as a viable destination. If you don't try, the answer clearly is no. The Jazz have some talent and some pieces in place with an aggressive GM who is willing to take chances to win.

There's NO WAY I would have ever expected Houston to end up with Dwight Howard three years ago. My full expectation was that he was going to end up with the "New Look" Nets or the "Showtime" Lakers. How the Hell did he end up in Houston? They went all out to get him. They put on the full court press and sold themselves as a team willing to do anything and everything to win.

The Jazz need to try the same approach, but they need to do it in the context of what they're building. See how the Spurs were so successful? Team play, ball movement and defense? That's what we're going to give you. We will be the deepest team in the NBA and we will do everything that we can to get you as much help as you need to get there. We have assets and cap space to build it, but we need a #1 guy to get everybody on board.

Yes, it falls short. The young guys haven't shown that they can handle the load to move forward. But you still make the pitch. If some of the guys step up under Snyder and the #5 draft pick looks good, then you use this same pitch on the next top free agent or disgruntled star two or three years from now.
