The article says that the Doc wrote the letter as attempt to help the sick woman to collect unemployment and has been trying to help her with what he can. Then someone posted the letter on FB to show that she is now unemployed and then it took off from there. So this might be a case of where she left on her own to battle the horrible diagnosis but the whole thing got out of hands when the Internets got a hold of it.
