What's new

Let’s talk about fours

As long as Favors is brought back on a short term overpay or a longer-term deal that’s moveable and a trade asset (should something could come up at the deadline next year), I am good with keeping him. I tend to agree that there’s not really an UFA on the market that Utah could realistically get that’s an upgrade on Favs.

Either should be doable in a summer like this where money is tight, right?
Still think we need to add either some more scoring punch or a stretch option like Bjelly or Hezonja by using the MLE or not exercising an option or two on the NGs and upgrading.

If Favors comes back on a long term deal, Udoh becomes less critical and his roster spot could be used on Bjelly/Hezonja.

I really like Favors and think he makes the Jazz better, but it’s kind of an either/or situation and I hope the Jazz let him go to preserve cap space next year.

I think Tobias Harris is a very realistic option. Mirotic too. If we have Favors on the team I think the odds we get either of them (or a similar type player) go down drastically given the salary situation and playing time situation.

Worst case scenario if you let Favors walk is you try running the position by committee (which they could do without even adding anybody) for a season, and then in 2019 you have Harris and Mirotic hit the market. That's obviously in addition to Middleton, not to mention Butler, Kawhi, Klay, PG/Lebron if they opt-in or signs a 1+1.

If the opportunity cost to have a shot at possibly two of those guys is just not ****ing around with keeping Exum and Favors, that is an easy, easy call to make for me.

Why not sign favors for one year and still chase those guys. We have cap room for him and he will get more money in a long term contact next year more likely. It's a win win for him and us. We are better with him. We can still play other people at pf depending on matchups.

Plus if we sign him for 1 year he is tradable at the deadline as a good expiring big man if a for deal pops up.

And I know this will sound silly, but:

I think the two things Lebron cares about are rings and where his family will be happy. If the Lakers strike out this offseason (PG doesn't go there, and the Spurs just refuse to trade Kawhi there [bless their god damn hearts]), I think Lebron opts in or signs a 1 + 1 with the Cavs (possibly with a no-trade clause?) to keep his options open in creating a new super team somewhere and not uprooting his family.

If the Jazz crush this year then go into next offseason and can pitch that they can grab two max players, where is his better option to go get more rings? That question applies to everyone else as well (except Klay, or especially Klay, depending on how you look at it).

I’m surprised nobody has brought up Julius Randle. He’s seems the easiest to pry away out of the three (Parker, Gordon).

16.1 PPG, 8 RPG, 2.6 APG, 55.8% from the field. Not a good shooter from three but the potential is there to become a decent one.

A good majority of his shots came in the paint but he makes a lot of shots from midrange. More than half of his assists were for 3’s too so that’s a little something extra he brings.

Not necessarily the stretch-four we all know we need but definitely think the potential is there with him.

Only problem is Lebron never wins in Utah.

At first I thought, “well that’s because Favors wouldn’t want to sign a one year deal. Why would do that? Especially with some injury history.” Then I realized it actually could make a lot of sense for him.

We can afford to possibly pay him a premium for just signing a one year deal, so he makes good money this one year. Then, next year a lot more teams will have cap space and his prospects will be much better in free agency, assuming he stayed healthy. I think this could make sense for both sides.

But can he play the 3?

In all seriousness, no thanks. Still a really bad defender.

Parker is a worse defender though. I think our team defense is good enough to make someone a better defender. We are going to have to sacrifice a little to get more scoring.

At least Parker can play the perimeter though.

Randle either needs the ball as kind of a point-forward or needs to work in Gobert’s space. I don’t love the fit.

This is my order of who I want at PF:

1. Parker
2. Gordon
3. Randle

I do think Favors is super underrated by everyone on here and in general. We definitely don’t win the OKC series without him. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Favors return.

I dont really understand the hate for Randle. Is it because of One Love pushing him so hard?

Randle is only 23. He does a lot of things well. He can score, rebound, and pass. He has pretty good handles too. He is athletic. He might be able to become a good defender.

I dont get why people get so stuck on who a young player is right now. Completely forgetting that people can get better at things.

Id be interested in Randle. Depends on what his cost is. He is another player like Hezonja that we could pick up without giving up much and maybe not paying much who could make the leap pretty soon here and become good player. The sign are there. He isnt complete trash.

He doesn't do either of the two things we'd need from him:

-reliably spread the floor
-protect the rim

I am one of the loudest in the choir of those ready to move on from Favors, but I'd rather keep Favors than go after Randle.

Id bet anything that if you suggested trading for Oladipo a couple years ago people would have scoffed at that idea too. Hes undersized, he cant shoot, blah, blah, blah.. Now, oh ya Id love to have him.

Cmon people you gotta see it coming before it happens. You gain no value from figuring it out in hindsight. I swear, we go through this with one or two players every year.

Id Id rather have Favors too, but Favors still has to want to sign here. If we need a replacement. He is someone worth looking at. I can easily see him becoming a good 3pt shooter. Not a rim protector but decent perimeter defender, and if he does everything else well, then thats pretty good.

Nah, I’d rather get Randle.

Randle cant shoot. I would rather keep Favors that I think is a better player and fits better.
