What's new

Let's not look at his contract for a second......

So if we do get Okafor, who is obviously available, would that be enough to help the Jazz compete with the Lakers? He's definitely a good shotblocker and rebounder. I am one of those who think his contract is too much to swallow, but if he is able to put us right up there with the Lakers, is it worth it to take the risk?

Well, I wouldn't mind him on the Jazz, I don't have to pay him. You have to take into consideration what it would take to get him though. AK? I would rather have Kirilenko.

The need for defense inside is far more pressing than whatever random output you'll get from Kirilenko. I'm a bit of a holdout on Okafor, but I don't think he's wildly overpaid for what he provides (size, athleticism, defense, rebounds). If you trade AK for Okafor straight up (while hopefully getting some kind of draft pick package), it gets the Jazz close to under the tax this year. I also like the idea of two PF/Cs on the floor at the same time for versatility in matchups and both Jefferson and Okafor can hold their own at the 5.

The real question in getting Okafor is the length of the deal and how it pertains to a new - and likely much stingier - CBA.

I'd think about it, but I'd probably still say no.

Yes, ppl would have to be blind NOT to take him (if we're excluding his contract) ...
But yes, his contract is not only TOO much but TOOO long (2014) !!

If you have Jefferson & Millsap who will probably play a lot together, where do you play Okur/Okafer? Assuming you don't trade Jefferson or Millsap to get Okafer(which would make zero sense in the first place).

All I've heard of Okafur is how he doesn't like the game. He doesn't work hard to improve and pretty much rests on his size.

Honz is right. The guy is a bum.

this.

not sure what it will take for fans to realize it, but AK >>>> anything we could reasonably get in exchange for AK.

I would rather have AK, he can shoot and play some perimeter D, and would get as many blocks as Okafor anyway. One of my big reservations about Okafor, other than his contract, if that he has a rep of being a guy who doesn't love the game. I think you have to have a certain amount of passion to win a title. If we could trade him for Okur, then maybe.

ONLY IF the Jazz would have traded AK for T Mac the Jazz would have had 24 mil off the books this summer. Sure Tmac is terrible but it would have been a great salary dump. We also wouldn't have beaten the Nuggs too cause T Mac is a 2nd round virgin(Besides in 2009 when they made it to the 2nd round but he was hurt)

Newb here. I'd rather have AK as well. If the Jazz doesn't have to give up anything, contract isn't an issue, etc, then sure I'd take Okafor.

I say we trade Okur for Okafor straight across. Have Millsap come off the bench.

Okafor - Millsap - Fesenko
Jefferson - Millsap - Fesenko
AK - Miles - Hayward
Bell - Miles - Hayward
D-Will - Price - Gaines

Puts us over the cap more this year but its a better scenario financially next summer than trading AK for him. Millsap will still get his minutes. Millsap of course will play PF when in the game. Remember Okafor has a very long wingpan and he could easily play better D against the lakers than Okur can.

Of course I am not sure the Hornets would do it. We would have to include something else but if they wouldn't accept a 2nd round pick than I wouldn't do it. Its fair in my mind because of Okafors bad contract.

Hornets Want Okafor Included In Any Paul Deal (Hornets obviously want to unload Okur)

Knicks wanted a shooting big man.
