What's new

Let's pull a Portland & sign Batum??

If we can get out of Al's contract (last yr 15), I would love to throw money at Batum.
Depending on if they want to re-sign Wallace, then POR needs to figure out their PG & C needs over Batum.

My ideal summer would be:
Trade for Rondo (DH/AJ/+), clears 15M (which BOS can absorb)
Sign Batum (if needed, a front-loaded contract as they need a PG/C)
Resign either CJ or Howad (cheaper one stays)
Sign AK (no more than 4M)
Find a 4th big (Memo??)

Roster:
Rondo / Watson / ??
Hayward / Burks / Bell
Batum / CJ or Howard
Millsap / AK / Evans?
Favors / Kanter

we got length starting: Rondo/Hayward/Batum
outside shooters starting: Hayward/Batum
solid frontcourt rotation: Millsap/Favors/Kanter/AK
solid bench: Burks (our spark ala Harden/Manu?), Kanter (eventually displacing Millsap) AK playing more PF, CJ/Howard (same fill-in), Watson (the bulldog), Evans (need that early-oop)

I was with you until that sentence killed it.

I'm done with bigs who can't post up, can't move, defend or block.

He's not great, definitely fails badly at the various +/- metrics. My thinking is more to make Portland suffer because Allen would not like being bullied, and would match nearly anything.

Isn't their owner trying to sell the team now? I read an article that compared him to a kid who has gotten tired of his toy.

Batum, Beaubois, etc.,etc. Lots of players look golden against the Jazz, but when you look up what kind of season they are having then they don't look so great.

Stopped reading here. I'm all for offering Batum a healthy, Millsapesque contract, but I just don't like Rondo's on court attitude. I don't know if anyone else see's it, but he reminds me of a less colorful Dennis Rodman.

Last year I think Batum rated as one of the worst defensive players actually. I recall reading an article about it.
Was it like the article that rated Steve Nash as the 7th best defensive PG in the NBA or Paul Millsap the worst defensive PF in the NBA?

Rather have AK or Josh Howard.
You'd rather have two guys on longterm deals that are well beyond 30 on a team that's not a contender? I'm not shocked.

I love Batum. I don't see it happening. Grabbing another team's RFA almost never happens. The Jazz should at least explore making Portland pay more than they otherwise might, however.

I suspect Portland's offer was already Millsapesque and he rejected it. If we want him would probably take around 10 million a year to start.
