What's new

LHM group buying 1280 the zone (ending lease with 1320)

I pretty much can't listen to 1280 other than Monson who is OK. At least he is willing to call it like he sees it.

You don't like Monson? I think he's pretty good. He has the balls to call out the Jazz when they do something stupid, and his melodramatic style is entertaining. It certainly beats Locke's "CJ shoots 3% better if he scratches his *** before the shot" stat-explosion.

I like Monson as well. Probably the only one with a clue out of all of them. Im not a fan of Locke either. I cant stand how much he is into stats. I say just use your eye balls and see who is good. So many things on the floor that go on that arent counted as stats. I remember Locke would always defend Boozer to the death because he loved his stats.

I like Gunther too. Which is weird 'cause I wouldn't expect to. He's kinda like PK except he doesn't veer too far from the topic. PK purposely veers off topic just to piss DJ (and us listeners) off. I'm so sick of PK. Love DJ though.

I abhor Hans. He's TERRIBLE. Same with Jan. They're both so painful. OC also annoying but standing next to Hans actually makes his suck not so bad. Still - he should be off the air.

Monson. He sounds like such a moron. But he pretty much stays on topic and he's been around for so long I might notice his absence and wish the moron was still on the air. Jake Scott is fine. Nothing wrong with him. Kinda invisible.

Which takes me to the invisibles - guys who I could take or leave. Already mentioned Jake. Scotty G is here too. Tony Parks.
Brad Rock. He's like the substitute radio guy. He's a bonehead but fairly harmless. I'm glad he's only the substitute though. Same goes for Rick Arron.
Ben Bags just missed the invisibles list. He can be kind of a dick to callers, so Bentley canned you.

David Locke. I like the stats. But he is such a company man, and he's a total dick to anyone with a different opinion. I actually hate him. But he does at least stay on topic - and even goes into more depth than anyone else, and this is very good. He needs a voice-ectomy though. I dunno. I think he'd be better if he wasn't working for the Millers.

Overall I think this is good news - because 1280 has such a better signal. And the talent will keep their jobs. Some of the idiots will too but most will not. PLEASE CAN HANS!

I used to want to punch him in his massive beak every morning, but he actually started to grow on me once I figured out that he doesn't ever mean a word he says. He's all about stirring the ****.

Ditto. (And by ****, you mean "pot", right?)

I love DJ and PK now. DJ is the perfect straight man and PK just cracks me up. Especially when he uses the word "irregardless".

Sounds like I am in the minority. I really enjoy DJ and PK. Scotty G and Checketts are better than average, when they aren't discussing Real Salt Lake. I think Monson is knowledgeable, but has an annoying way of presenting himself. However, I always smile when I think of his San Bernadino interview. Hans is entertaining usually, but doesn't seem very bright. The 1280 Blue and Red show is painful to listen to. Ferg is OK. I find the worst local person by far to be Tony Parks. He does great impressions, but he constantly takes bold stands that lack common sense just like a preschooler. I see real potential for a merger, but prefer the 1320 guys more as a whole.

I work out doors and have a work truck. So I listen to am radio all the time. You can also catch all these shows online or 1320 has a phone app. Same with espn radio. Whats nice about the apps and online is you can listen to a show from another city. When the playoffs are going I like to tune into one of the other cities broadcast to see what they are saying. Its kind of like trolling other fan sites. Its interesting to hear what the other side is saying. I havent listen to a Spurs one yet though. Will probably look soon. When I am doing yard work or something I like to put on a sports show and listen in my headphones.

Contest idea: for Inside the Outdoors final show they should let 3 listeners come to the studio, provide them with a weapon of their choice, and then turn off all the lights in the building and have them hunt Steve Brown, while we listen in.

I think Spence Checketts has quietly become one of the best sports radio guys around. Considering that he just barely made the jump to 1320 from 700, I would be shocked if LHM doesn't keep him employed. I PRAY that spells the end to Gordon Monson and I completely disagree with the people in here who say he generally stays on topic. In fact, he usually fails to talk any sports at all. Any time I tune in and he's on, it usually ends up being a "what's the best guy movie of all time", or "what's the dumbest thing you've ever said to your wife" type of discussion.

Scotty G. is the program director at 1320 so you can bet he'll stay employed as well. If I was a 1280 talking head, I'd be pretty nervous right about now. I bet almost all of them are purged.

I like 1320. I usually listen for about 2 to 4 hours of radio with my windshield time on the job. I hope it doesn't change up things too much.

This is bad news for Utah sports radio. I think 1280 is the better channel but this means less competition and less options to bounce between.
