Lies, Damned Lies & Statistics

Clearly, things are not going well for the Jazz at the moment.

Do the stats paint a clear picture of what's going wrong or do they lie?

Wait a minute.... How can the Jazz be ranked 21st in Off Rebound and 22nd in Def Rebounding with two bubble all-stars starting at pf and Center, and with the best rebounding rookie and the most athletic bigman of the 2010 draft coming off the bench ? I thought they were grabbing all the available rebounds and that was the jazz pg, sg and sf average a combined 5 rpg.

Keep in mind that Rebound numbers are inflated when a team plays good defensively. Id imagine that a team like Chicago, or Miami is among the best rebounding teams in the NBA.

Trying to figure out where you got these stats. They're amazingly incorrect.

LOL - my bad, stupid yahoo stats defaulted to 'opposition stats' for some reason and I hadn't spotted it.

You may want to get rebounding rate, available at basketball reference. Pace matters.

Edit - FWIW I think the player stats are right. If not I may go find a tall building to jump off

A bit off topic but this reminded me there is always the exception. I remember last year the Jazz for the first part of the season (when they got off to their hot start) were near the tops of FG% against but near the bottom on defensive rebounds (giving up offensive rebounds).
