Life - official thread

Yup, but sometimes you crave something with a bit more flavour... but also have to be mindful about piling on sugar as well.

What I do now is buy a 1L carton of freshly squeeze orange juice, dilute it by 1/2 - 1/3 and just drink that. Quenches your thirst, good for you (Vitamin C), and with the dilution you don't consume as much sugar as you would otherwise.

I crave beer. That's the only sugary drink I drink. If I drink three sodas a year I'd be surprised. And I used to drink fruit juice but turns out that stuff isn't really all that good for you, so if I want fruit I eat whole fruit (fiber matters).

I live life by a simple mantra: Coffee in the morning (and only in the morning), water throughout the day (the more the better), beer at night (keep it reasonable). And that's been how I've done it the better part of the last 15 years.

For sure, it's one of the greatest conundrum in life.. do you live life to the fullest (but may die younger than you should) or do you live 100% healthily and may be live 4-5 years longer on average?

My mom was recently retired from the business and ever since she's been on this 'health crusade', reading and practicing everything she can to make her life as healthy as possible... eat more veges, cut down on fatty food, going swimming, etc, etc, ... to the point that she's refusing to eat food people cook for her if it's unhealthy (too oily, too sweet, etc).

Life doesn't get much better than this from Grand River Brewery. Had it at the Cabbage Shed in Elberta, MI. Craving it, but haven't found a local source yet.

This is what I do with my OJ as well. Not freshly squeezed. Just the Tropicana, No Pulp, With Calcium kind.

Woke up yesterday and had my beautiful Mrs Stoked in bed next to me. And all 5 kids in the home snoring their butts off.

Got up, let the dogs out. Wife came down and turned on some AC/DC and I started to cook.

It's amazing how fast the smell of cooking scrambled eggs with cheese, biscuits, sausage patties, hash browns and pork chops will wake kids up and get them around the table for breakfast. Topped the meal off with strawberries, jam and butter, OJ, coffee and apple juice.

Damn good way to start the day.
NAOS my dogs love weekend breakfast as well. They get the left overs.

I feel like I'm sort of on the cusp of reevaluating the time and effort I give to reading. I still probably devote an average of three hours a day (even post-academia). I really enjoy it (when I have my hands on excellent stuff), but there's this growing sense of 'why am I doing this?' building up. This might sound like a small thing, but expansive reading and analyzing is most likely my number-one skill. I guess the hesitation I'm now feeling is the result of wishing my number-one skill was something else. Reading can be number 2 or 3.

(ALSO: I never set out to be this kind of reader. Anthropology departments should train people to be excellent judges of character and investigators of political/economic/etc phenomena. They don't do this, though, because you're forced to spend about 100 times more time reading than doing these other things. Thus, my reading habit.)

I also love to read but do not get the chance that much anymore.

I am into some spooky books but mostly fantasy and scifi. Never could get into political/historical or other educational books.

Another social event that I'm the only person not drinking.

However, I flat out refused to be any drunk ***'s dd. Ain't starting that ****.
