What's new

List of coaches Corbin is better than.

Fans do need to stop criticizing the look on his face. That's just how he looks.

But stuff like this is stupid. Sometimes the media really misunderstands fans. As a whole I believe people in large groups will react in similar ways to situations. Right now fans are pissed because he has all our favorite players on the bench.

Not sure if that's Ty's fault. Would you dare bench Millsap or Jefferson? Look what happened with Bell, and he actually sucked. And I do believe Ty moved Hayward to the bench to give him more opportunities. Hayward is up for an extension, and it wouldn't be good for him if he was in Marvin's current role.

All in all, the front office should have made moves that signaled commitments to certain players by now. I'll stop watching if they don't do something by the trade deadline.

I guess I could be naive and/or gullible that when Corbin mentions the team needs to move and cut more he really means it and is telling/coaching them to, however I do agree he could better control that situation by using minutes specifically taking them away if players don't.
Although I could then see it working against the team and him if he has to make to many subs and nobody gets in any rhythm (people were complaining about that early in the season) and then players could get frustrated and then he could lose the locker room.

Jerry wasn't afraid to ruffle the players feathers. He held people accountable and let players know when they hadn't met his expectations. He might not have been every players favorite person, but he wasn't trying to be their friend. Everyone knew what their role was, and how they were expected to fill that role. Even when players were mad at Jerry, they still played hard.

With Ty, no one knows what to expect. There is no rythm now, so I don't understand why taking minutes away for not hustling or playing defense (Al) or jacking up shots (Foye) would change anything. If Al can just jog up and down the floor and take stupid shots all game, why should he change? Why should anyone else try in that situation? Kanter can be killing it, but Al needs his minutes, so out he comes, never to be heard from again. There is no consistency or accountability from Corbin, that is how you lose a locker room.

You draft players.
You trade for players.
You teach players.
You work every angle you can to get the players you want that will fit under the salary cap.
But for chrissake, you HIRE the damn coach--it's the one position where the FO gets to review resumes and pick from candidates... and his salary doesn't count against the cap. Why must we settle for mediocrity?

So I assume that with a 'real' coach, as some of you think we need, we would be a top 4 team in the west with all the talent we have?
Someone please tell me the coach first, then how many MORE wins we would have right now.
Please no comments from the "lets tank and get picks" crowd...

Im not a huge fan of Ty, but its a bit lame, IMO, to think we wouldnt be in pretty much the same spot with anyone else coaching.

D'Antoni - Has underachieved everywere he's been
Doc Rivers - Could only win with an All Star cast.
SVG - Clearly underachieved with a couple Dwight teams.
Mike Brown - umm.
Larry Drew - can't do anything with very talented teams.
Carlesimo - Has gotten fired from every single team.
Byron Scott - Can't do anything with the best point guards in the game at the time.

That's just a start.

You were clearly wrong about Doc Rivers! He made some really smart changes. Double teaming Jefferson, calling a zone when we were hot, fouling at the end of the game. Rivers is obviously better than Corbin. Starting Watson in front of Tinsley was laughable.

Doc Rivers did not win this game because of coaching prowess. He won it because he has two HOFs on his squad.

Not sure what role he played in drawing up several Paul Pierce isos, or Kevin Garnett's unbelievable P&R-busting ability.

He played a role in double teaming Big Al, switching to a zone, and fouling at the end of the game. Are you arguing Corbing is better?

*Two HOFers that are shells of their former selves, no PG, and a cobbled together roster of non-sense.

Yup, a shell that scored 7 straight, contested points against us in OT, as well as a shell who single-handedly busted every pick and roll attempt we ran in the 4th quarter/overtime.

What are you, like 0/4 tonight?

Is the denominator the number of times you've switched accounts in the last day, or the number of drinks you've had in the last hour?

Anyway, the Celtics are not that good, and Doc Rivers isn't the best coach in the NBA, but saying he's a better coach than Ty is not a lofty compliment either.

Tell me, does it hurt knowing that a dude who just entered this forum is embarrassing such an 'established poster' across multiple threads on different topics?

Seems to be the case, judging by your responses.

Take care.

Trolls are frustrating. That's the long and the short of it. And you know everything about it. But good show.

You're overthinking this, Doc Rivers may not be on par with Popovich and Phil Jackson when it comes to game planning and in-game adjustments, but at least he knows how to put his best players in the starting lineup. Something our coach still hasn't figured out after 2.5 seasons...
