Perhaps it is time to start assuming the roster is essentially complete. The distribution of shots/plays will change next year simply because we have added perimeter threats, but it's also bound to change because its one-dimensionality (i.e. ways in which it is initiated and its fairly vulgar permutations) was fatally exposed by the Spurs. In other words, we need to add more looks, more wrinkles.

This thread is for brainstorming additions to the offense.

1. More PnR in general, but a lot more for Hayward.
2. Iso situations for Burks
3. Any and all plays for Millsap's face-up mid-range game (over Jefferson's low block monotony).

What else?

Really more of the same, we were great last year on that side of the court. Really the biggest knock we had was our terrible 3-point shooting, but despite that we had great efficiency numbers. We've dramatically improved our shooters going into next year so that number should certainly be on the rise. I'd be happy if we did everything exactly the same and just buried a few more 3's.

I agree with just getting some better productivity from our outside shooting. That will let us spread our offense which should make our inside game better including (yeah, I'll say it) Al Jefferson. :)

Basically to avoid doing the same play over and over again. Especially in crunch time and especially when it's not working.

Go with a fast undersized mostly young offense for stretches and run run run!
Something like: Mo, burks, hayward, evans, favors would be fun to watch for 7 or 8 minutes.

Just more pushing the ball up court which is hard to do with jefferson lumbering up and down.

For purely the sake of entertainment I hope we do not run our exclusive post-up offense. We had to be one of the more boring teams to watch last year. I would be content if the only thing Favors and Kanter did during training camp was learn how to first set a decent pick and then learn how to run an effective PnR.

Is Jefferson thaqt much slower than opposing centers? Seems to me we could run with 4 people even if he was on the court.

David Locke did a ton of research on gordon hayward running the PnR; Gordon was terrible when put in such situations. I would love to see Gordon run the PnR too but hopefully when getting the opportunities, he'll convert more into success.

Iso's are quite inefficient. Why do you want that? Millsap's iso's and post ups are also more inefficient than Jefferson's. Why do you want a less efficient offense?

I want Burks driving with the ball. So do the jazz, since no one else can do this without a screen. Don't tell OKC and Miami this isn't efficient.
I never said I wanted isos and post-ups for Millsap. check it. I want plays run for his mid-range and "guard moves" games.

I want some mid range shooting from Kanter and Corbin to try him with wider space in the offense rather than the same deep post ups all the time.

"Guard moves." So isolations. Millsap spotting up is more inefficient than Jefferson spotting up.

EDIT: And OKC and Miami get their points on drive and kicks. Burks isn't nearly as good a passer as Westbrook, James and Wade. In fact, his assist rate was LOWER than C.J.'s.

EDIT2: And OKC runs pick and roll A LOT more than isolations.

Are you talking about the year when Westbrook led the league in turnovers? Or are you talking about an experienced Westbrook?

With floor-spreading shooters out there, I'll take Millsap playing heads-up quarterback in a flex-type scheme over Jefferson's blindness to weakside help defense.... 8 days a week. Millsap struggled with no space last year. He'll be freed up quite a bit.

I've already called for more PnR, but OKC and Miami do a lot without the aid of a screen, too. We only have one guy that can do that (so I want to see him get some run as such).

This.
Big Al's "boring" post ups are far more efficient than Sap's face ups. With some shooters outside it should be much better all around.

Al should be told not to shoot when doubled not to hold the ball when he doesn't have a shot but to pass it back out. At the same time, guys have to stop standing around when Al gets the ball.

Hayward needs to master the curl jumper that Harpring was so good at

Isos for Burk to go to the hole.

Spot ups for 3-point shooters in the corner like the Spurs do -- Foye will be good at this; I remember him shooting well from the corner for the Clips
