:lloP :ykcitS How big of an extension should the Jazz offer Jeffy?

Jefferson extension size

Too bad it can't be an incentive driven contract, something along the lines of $2M per FTA he averages per game. That would cost the Jazz about $7M. Then add another mill on for each time he defends the pick and roll. The total owed wouldn't change.

I doubt he'd accept less though.

I took the $12 mm option with the idea that you're potentially using it as a trade chip down the line than actually buying the player outright. The idea that Jefferson is totally worthless and should be dumped for a 2nd rounder has always been somewhat perplexing to me.
1. Frank asked how big an extension the Jazz should offer. I don't think they should offer him that much.

2. Plenty of middle ground between offering him a $12mm/year extension and dumping him for a 2nd round pick. Shop him hard for decent value up until the trade deadline. With so little salary on the books beyond this season, it may make sense to let him walk if better options are available.

The goal here is to keep Jefferson as a tradable asset with a reasonable contract without killing our cap. Someone would offer him 3 years and $40 - $45MM. I mean, look at Boozer's contract.

The goal is to win a championship. What has become of jazz nation?

You couldn't handle it. I'll buy wine coolers to go with your turkey.

Who is that guy that sucks really bad in the 8 and 7 spots in your graphs? How did he get there?

Bah, Jefferson is a solid player, but his value is higher than his talent. He will be overpaid by someone because he has that 'unstoppable' move in the paint, the question is whether or not the Jazz are the team who overpay's him. I frankly hope not, but if you let him go, who replaces him? Kanter? Sure Favors can play the position, but i really see him as the starting 4 of the future, not the 5. Realize that letting Favors go almost seals Millsap for the future. Do you guys want that? I'm not sure whether I want that or not. Then again, letting Millsap go basically seals Al staying. Which do I want.............

Honestly I can't commit to a number. He might be offered an extension or he might not. There are a great number of variables especially concerning the development of Kanter. The Jazz are in a great position to be able to wait and see what happens with this "logjam" and make decisions later.

Essentially if Kanter doesn't show a whole lot Utah will likely offer Al a very nice package. If Kanter does look ready then Al will be playing for somebody else. I don't see another train of events.

I chose Max contract.

Just so I finally have a reason to kill myself.

(But seriously, if he's on the Jazz next season, I'm going to be so sad.)

I wouldn't offer AJ a deal at all. How are the Jazz going to be able to afford AJ/Millsap/Favors etc? I know it is a hard decision but if you give AJ another contract then you are basically ready to lose one of the big three Millsap/Favors/Kanter. My fear is that both Kanter and Favors get tired of being second fiddles and sign somewhere else. I like AJ and feel as though he gets too much criticism but it is a numbers game. The Jazz have too many big guys and they can't pay them all $12 million a year.

False. If you sign Al to a reasonable enough contract, he can be moved, at worst, for expirings and picks. Dumping assets for fear of some unlikely future outcome is pretty stupid. With that said, I wouldn't be comfortable with a deal starting at $12mm.

Since sticky was reversed I was trying to figure out how to stick it to the bottom. But I suspect you don't want that.
