What's new

Locke and DX Givony podcast

Yeah, you care or you don't. He didn't, and now everyone's supposed to just assume that he does now? Not everyone can be a great defender, but everyone can care, or even PRETEND to care. The clips in that video are literally some of the worst defense I've ever seen. Dude didn't (doesn't?) care. AT. ALL. Not even enough to pretend.

Well think about it - if it was you, you just arrived in the country, you're waiting to be accepted into a college to play ball and you already have a number of colleges wanting your service.

Would you go hard and risk injury? Or would you just play well enough and then go hard at the next level?

Seriously I mean, this is not a vacuum he's playing in here.

Brandon Knight went hard.

Blah blah blah. Excuses. We're not talking about diving for loose balls here, or blocking shots from behind in transition. He's standing straight up, completely loafing, not engaged whatsoever, with his arms down. I've never seen such nothing. This makes Boozer's effort-level on defense look Rodman-esque.

If you have to rationalize when to try and when to not (at all), you don't have "it".

The "He is going to college so why try hard" is a cop out too. There are hundreds, probably thousands of High School basketball players who have a lot more to lose than Kanter did, and they play hard.

Again - my main argument is you don't pass on a guy just because he's not there (yet) defensively. We already have Favors for that.

Look at the Finals - game 4 - Dallas had Chandler - but it was Nowitzki who put his team on his back flu and all and hit the game winning shot.

That's the kind of player we're looking at here, a big who's skilled enough to put the ball on the floor, shoot it, draw fouls.

And as for drafting Knight - over the past 10 years - how many PG do you see dominating the final? This year's cast: Wade's a SG, LeBron - SF, Bosh - PF, Nowitzki - PF, Terry - SF. I haven't seen a true PG dominating in the Finals since - let's see - 2004 with Billups.

And for those thinking Kanter didn't go HARD in High School - have a look at the video below and compared it to Givony's "I won't show the whole game, but instead only edit in bits that support my argument" video:

Did you just call Jason Terry a SF?

Have you watched Givony's video? It is far from all negative. There is an offensive video that shows him doing some very good (and bad) things. His defensive video is mostly bad, but there are some few good moments in it too. Givony does a good job of compiling footage and doesn't point out to the viewer "Oh, here is the positive part, here is the negative part".

Again I reiterate my point that you don't pick a guy just because he isn't there (yet) defensively.

If I learnt anything this past year, it's that defense is a team concept. You need the whole team working together - see how Bulls was able to become a very good defensive team despite having Boozer and Korver (yes, we know all about these guys).

Mike Brown said it best in his press conference as a Lakers coach. He believed that an offensive strategy needs to be tailored to personnel that exists in the team.

A defensive strategy is the opposite, he believed he can implement a defensive strategy regardless of the personnel - as long as the team buys into it.

Keep trying, combo guard. Which is what Brandon Knight is projected by many to be.

Alright - in Dallas Terry had Kidd. You're saying by picking Knight we'll still need a true PG?

You can't be seriously saying we'll waste a #3 pick on a Jason Terry clone (Terry comes off the bench by the way) and still need to find a true PG down the road.

Well every player is unique. Brandon Knight isnt going to be just like Terry, just similar. Knight could develop into a Terry with more PG skills, but yeah Terry has been huge in the playoffs thus far. Without him, the Mavs aren't where they are now.

Like I said earlier, if we draft Kanter on the 23rd we might as well unveil the statue on the 24th.

I just watched Kanter's defense video, and it's beyond horrible. I hope it is because those moments happened when his team already had a huge lead.

The competition he was playing against looked worse than the high school beside my church.

FWIW, Kanter's team won by an average of 23.3 points per game ..

Thanks PKM.

Well that says it all really - playing hard when you're up by 23 pts in a High School game is not called effort, it's called being stupid.
