What's new

Locke's endless apologies for Hayward.

Haymaker is not the guy you would want to lead your team.

Above all my thoughts about him not being fit for a primary option, I like his game very much and I think he is a valuable asset for the Jazz as a spot up shooter and a point forward ONLY when needed in rotation. Not all the friggin time.

Serious question...

Who is the face of the franchise? Kanter, Burks, Burke, and Favors have all had their moments but none of them are what I would call "the face of the franchise."

To me, it should be Favors. He is a strong character and a decent person from how it appears. He likes SLC's steadiness and find its calmness fitting to his personality. I think he can last his career in Utah.

Logically, it can also be Kanter. Not because I am Turkish too. Of course I want him to be successful, but he is the most beloved player in the team for the fans that fill the seats. He liked to be the mediatic figure. At least he did. Now everything looks kinda backwards for him in that matter.

For the Utah Jazz, it was always Gordon from the start of the season. They pumped him too much that he looked like his heart would pop out in the first games. He looked so exhausted to fulfil the role that was attached to him by the FO. What else could he do? That was his chance to make the big step.

Above all, I agree with you, there is no face to set for the long term right now. Maybe the drafted kid will fill that spot, who knows?

Seriously Greg Miller and Gail Miller are the faces of the franchise right now. None of our young guys have emerged.

On Hayward, what is his NBA skill? He struggles as a defender against power wings or slashing wings. He can't shoot from the outside and he is struggling to finish. He understands passing angles but his accuracy on passes isn't great. He has some athletic talent but maybe it is time to start Burks and let Hayward play against bench guys.

No matter how bad of slump you're in, I'd expect an NBA player to be able to make layups. How many layups has he missed in the last 4-5 games?

A million times this. Hayward is a horrible finisher. AK, Harp and some other guys pissed me off about missing layups, but Hayward is on another level. If he doesn't get to the basket absolutely free, I'm almost sure he will miss it. When he has to adjust because someone is coming to try and block his shot, it's a sure miss. If teams were smart and just challenged his shots a little bit, he'd never make a layup. Ever. I don't think he understands how angles work. Or maybe he thinks it's more important to work on his jumpshot, which is far from great as well. I'm a Hayward fan. I like his overall game. But he needs to touch the ball less and shoot less. I'm kinda glad we didn't pay him at the beggining of the season and if he asks for more than 10 million, we should just let him walk.
Hayward is the new CJ for me. Sure, he does a lot more than CJ did. But you always expect him to finally put it together, until you realize it might never happen.

Here are some other excuses Locke didn't come up with, but I'm sure may in the future.

Hayward shoots with the sun in his eyes.
His barber gave him a haircut that makes him look like he's 12.
His shooting coach is in Phoenix.
Burke passes the ball too hard for him to shoot correctly.
His shooting form is unnatural to him.
Hayward gets nervous when he shoots corner threes.
Sidney Lowe's suits bother Hayward.
He's nervous about his Honda Accord getting popcorned.
He's worried we will all find out why he was hanging out with a high school girl.
His twin sister beat him in a game of HORSE.

Anyone remember before the season when we said Hayward wouldn't look good in a role he doesn't fit? Ppl are quick to throw good Jazz players like Hayward and Millsap under teh bus.

But what role is he really suited for? Off the bench scorer? Defensive minded starter? Designated Scorer?

I just not seeing where he fits.

Then you need to open your eyes. He is a perfect 2nd-3rd option. He passes well for his position, makes catch and shoot baskets and can play good D. He is an ideal player to support an allstar/superstar.

- Someone left a window open in the ESA, so there's a draft blowing Gordon's shots off course.
- The fans are too loud, it's throwing off his rhythm...he can't concentrate.

Glue guy, & off-ball shooter with some end of clock pnr ability. Let's not forget he drove as well as Burks when he was in the role Burks is now in, and shot threes as well as Jefferson and Marvin when in those roles. I'll take that shooting driving combination any day (but I don't know what his value is and worry he'll be overpaid).

Almost forgot -- his role should be "padding" his rebounding stats so we can continue hating on him for grabbing boards too well.
