The problem is he is "elite" from mid-range for 10 games now but his whole pro career his mid range game was average. Do we think those 10 games are more meaningful than his whole NBA carrer? So should he take long twos just because he made some for a couple of games?
Maybe Hayward doesn't really love this game, and he's only in it for the money? Some players are like that...Boozer, Amaechi, etc. If you don't truly love your job, of course you're not going to put in the extra effort and give a 110%.
Doubt it. Hayward is just going through things he has never had to deal with: prolonged slump, being on a terrible team. He dreamt of being a MAX player and has been shown his limitations. And whether we believe fish's source or not, there would be a natural tendency for Gordon to compare himself to Paul George just because of draft position. And with George playing in Indiana and Hayward from there, yes, the success of the Pacers and struggles of Utah are undoubtedly an added source of distress.
Jazz are benefitting from his poor play this year. Were he just shooting like last season, Utah would likely have 6-7 more wins and we'd be discussing who the Jazz might get with the 13th pick in the draft. Not to mention his price has likely come down to whatever the Jazz offered him this summer.
