Locke's Lilliard Scouting Video

either an expert or a homer... not sure which.

Fair enough.

I also think it makes you more an expert than most.

So what is your analysis of lillard? Is he fast and quick enough, have good enough range, size, leadership, confidence, handle etc etc?

Range is not an issue with Lillard. Easy motion for him to shoot at 25 feet. Size really shouldn't be an issue. He'll get used to the size, and quickness for that matter, of the NBA. Montana (one of the games Locke "breaks down") through a seven footer out there all game. The one thing that caught my eye the most with Lillard is his ability to stop. He's lightning quick to stop and pull up for a shot.

Never noticed him being a vocal leader. He deferred to the play calling of the coaching, always looking over to see the play call. He initiated the play more often than most. He doesn't strike me as the leader type in the NBA (Derek Fisher type).

Not terribly experimental with his handle. Doubt he breaks NBA ankles.

He's an adequate passer. The problem with the pick and roll was with our bigs. Had five going into the year. Two suffered significant injury. Left us with the plodding post man, the plodding energy defensive guy, and the "I think I'm a great shooter" guy. None of them were good at getting the ball 15 feet away rolling to the basket. Teams did essentially the same thing all the time on the pick and roll: double Lillard, Zone the two bigs with the remaining big, who usually could recover to either big. Lillard will likely have issues at the beginning with good hedging bigs on the pick and roll.

Never really noticed anything particular on defense. He's fine one-on-one. Running off picks might indeed be an issue.

Locke is an unbelievable homer. I bet you he's making these videos just so he can hind behind the excuse of "well there as simply no player worth trading for into the first round" in the instance that KOC can't put together a package to get for him. Watch, if we somehow land Lillard, he's going to make an entirely different video talking about how amazing he is, completely contradicting many of the points he made in this video. As big of a homer as they come.

Honestly didn't think about that, but that's probably true. Locke is just waiting to say that.
I like a few people in this draft at their draft spot, but Lilliard isn't one of them....Lilliard is too high, he should be around 9-14 and not 5-9. I think the PG disparity is delusionizing teams.
Perry Jones is one of the guys that should be higher along with Terrence Jones. Both have top 5 size and athleticism.
Kendall Marshall after 18 is also a really good find but not at 13-16. Also Sullinger will be a steal anywhere around 20. Royce White as well is a good find.

Good scouting report on him, glad you didn't go the homer route. My problem with Lilliard is his decision-making.

If you have incredible size/athleticsm at the PG spot (Westbrook, Rose), you can get away by not being a good decision maker.
However, if you don't have the physical tools (Parker, Paul), then your decision making and leadership skills are what will really matter.

Lilliard is kind of stuck in the middle. He's not up to the Rose or Westbrook level, so I'd want him to be a better passer and leader to make up for that.

Good analysis.... repped.

According to Synergy, Lillard is by far the best pg in the draft at the pick and roll. An absolute stud.

Because even with those double teams, he'd break it and score, either through step backs or getting past the doubling big.

EDIT: Basically, he'll have to pass more in the pick and roll than he did at Weber, which will be fine, since the bigs he'll be passing to in the NBA can actually do something with the ball when they catch it while moving.
