What's new

Lockout!!!

It's defenitly over if they decertify. The courts won't side with the players and the owners will nail them. The diva days are over for these players.

I am guessing Jordan, Greggy Boy and other small market owners are hoping they do decertify. It will ultimately make it easier to pound out an even more owner friendly deal someday down the road.

I don't really care who wins the deal. I just want a system that promotes parity. I don't think either side really cares about that though.

I'm a novice at all this, but isn't parity very difficult to accomplish because of endorsement deals being based on market size .. not to mention where players want to live? That may be a highly bashable post .. I just don't know.

Yes, but the NFL has managed to do it. But even in the NFL, there are elite franchise who win much more than others. Still, the NFL has rules in place that promote parity.

Yep. I don't think most of us really expect things to be level across the board. I'd just be happy with an honest effort to at least close the gap a little.

Right now, I'm extremely concerned with the possibilty of the losing the entire season. Making up some ground in competetive balance could end up a wash, or worse, if it screws us out of a good pick in the next draft.

Nobody knows for sure, but it's a possibilty. It's pretty much a given that they wouldn't just keep the same draft order as last year.

They should average each team's record from last season with a projected record for the 2012 season. I don't see how anyone would get screwed if they did that...but I can think of a few teams that would get screwed if the NBA just did what the NHL did.

On a side note, if we DO get totally screwed by the lockout and method used to determine draft order, then I say we trade Jefferson and Harris and just do everything we can to have the worst record in the league for a shot at Shabazz Muhammad in the 2013 draft :P

**** it. Season over. It really sucks, but it's time to let the players suffer a little bit for this.
In the end they won't get a better deal than what is on the table now. Their image will suffer, and the NBA is going to take a giant
hit for awhile.

When is spring training?

Sources close to the talks revealed later Sunday that the union is actually holding out hope that the league will call to re-open negotiations before Wednesday, with an eye toward tweaking some of the system issues to lead to a more palatable deal that the NBPA would be comfortable with putting to a vote. The union's belief, sources say, is that a few changes -- none of them monumental -- could produce a deal now that the gap on the revenue was closed further in Saturday's negotiations.

5 months or so. Until then, it is time to watch a lot more college basketball. I agree, looks like there is little chance of a deal happening.

Agreed, I'm on to college basketball. I just got an American group of channels added to my german cable. ESPN was one, so that should mean
lots of college BB. Hurts to lose the NBA, but I'm done this year.

It's like hanging around waiting for a girl who is no good for you. She looks great, but she doesn't really love you. It's time to ignore her for a while, and make her jealous.

Does anyone think the owners are calling? To me, this offer was of the take it or leave it variety. The owners are ready and willing to lose a season and in the process get an even better deal.

Well, if the players theoretically agreed to the owners current proposal before the deadline they gave them, then the owners pulled that deal back when the players agreed to it. Wouldn't that be considered negotiating in bad faith, or something along those lines? Wouldn't that help the players if it when down the legal procedure road?

Probably. I don't see the owners changing the offer before the deadline though. If it eventually gets to the deadline and the players still won't accept the offer then we might as well kiss the season goodbye. I don't think there is any way the players accept 47%. At that point, the season should probably just be cancelled so that they can put us fans out of our misery.

We need our young guys to develop no doubt and no season will hurt that but losing a season also means the Spurs, Lakers, and Mavs are a year older and closer to AARP membership. Not so bad.

Really what we need is Millsap or Hayward or Jefferson to grab the reins, and get these guys together for practices, workouts, scrimmages and such. I think we have just nine under contract per se but see no reason someone like Watson couldn't or wouldn't participate in such to get it to 10. This would be huge, HUGE, in not only the development of the players but the chemistry and camaraderie of the guys as well so that when things do resume, everyone's not a stranger to each other.

This is all true. We need these players to not only get to know each other better, improve themselves, but also learn Corbin's system. A whole year off could really
send things in so many ways. I think it's better for all of us to check out of this year emotionally. I think I've given up all hope now, but I know it's
not really over until Wed.

This would be awesome if this happened. Just like what Drew Brees did with the saints during the NFL lockout. The only problem is that Jefferson and Milsap don't know what system Corbin is going to use. But it would still be benificial IMO!
