Lockout!!!

"I spoke to (Blake) and he was one of the guys who wanted to take the deal," Brown said in a phone interview with ESPNLosAngeles.com on Tuesday. "I respect his opinion. I didn't try to sway it. I gave him the advantages and the disadvantages of taking the deal and not taking the deal. Going into the meeting, I understood that he was one of those people that were for taking the deal.

Houston's Kevin Martin told SI.com, "If you know for sure (the owners) are not moving, then you take the best deal possible." Boston's Glen Davis questioned the union's decision in an interview with the Boston Herald and Cleveland's Samardo Samuels told the Akron Beacon Journal, "A lot of people in the league are panicking." Also, Chris Duhon, the Orlando Magic's player rep, tweeted on Sunday that his team would accept the deal prior to Fisher's announcement on Monday that it was a unanimous decision to reject the proposal. Davis said he felt "out of the loop" leading up to the union's decision.

Is it just me or is everyone else wanting to hear all the players and owners wine about their problems. I honestly can't get enough of West not being able to pay for his health insurance. Will there be a Christmas at the Allen house? Can Jordan afford a pair of his shoes?

There's going to be a bit of backlash between players and teams when all of this is said and done. I don't see another team in the NBA offering Fisher a contract. Not a lot of players will want to go play for Jordan in Charlotte. As a fan I have started spending my NBA time and money on other things. And honestly I think I am happier and healthier for it.

Part of me thinks West is just joking on twitter, but I don't know, he is a troubled dude.

Interesting Development, some players are taking contracts to play in other leagues without opt out Clauses in case the NBA starts up again.

Aaron Brooks, Joakim Noah, and JR Smith. See https://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm

Seems like the players are planning for an entire season lost. And what if the lock-out ends? Brooks is a FA, so it doesn't matter, but it creates a dilema for the ones who are under contract. And what about Burks, Kanter, AK and other Jazz players who are unsigned? Could they get locked into ovseas contracts and not come back.

Agreed. With all of it, especially that in bold.

I have ZERO sympathy for the players at this point. Is there something less than ZERO? I have negative ZERO (negative infinity as my 10 year old would say =) sympathy for the players. I made far far far from a million freaking dollars a year in my job, but when I got laid off and went well over a year without a job, guess what? I was able to budget and use my savings and some investments and unemployment and odd jobs and keep providing my 4 kids with their medications or doctor visits as needed, provided them with food and a place to live and clothing, made sure they made it to school, etc.

If you have to eat regular food like the rest of us and live in a normal house or apartment like the rest of us and do normal things like the rest of us and maybe wonder where the next dollar is coming from to pay your bills like the rest of us, all because you squandered your millions in moronic living, well then it sucks to be you, and maybe you deserve pity for being such a ****ing moron, but you definitely do not deserve any sympathy.

Dont believe Noah would be correct. He would have to have an opt out clause. Only free agents may sign without one.

Here's some fresh, new....lockout observations:

"This is where the players simply don't get it. They accuse the owners of bullying. But the players invite the bullying. The players encourage owners to bully them because the owners fully recognize that the union -- sorry, the trade association -- is disorganized and thereby prone to manipulation. Every individual NBA player demands respect because he is one of the best in the world at his sport. But as a 450-member team, the NBA players are to unity what the Timberwolves have been to team basketball lately. Just as you may respect the Timberwolves' individual talent but laugh about their play as a team, so too do the owners respect the talents of NBA players but openly laugh about their dysfunctional leadership.

The players ought to be furious at themselves for their failure to organize. Consider the fact that the administrative leadership of this trade association went through a similar work stoppage in 1998-99, and yet, with two years to prepare for the current lockout, failed to take the steps necessary to improve its teamwork.

If the players had been organized and unified, would the owners have dared to demand so many concessions? Probably not, especially since the owners are themselves fragmented.

So here the NBA finds itself today, with back-room owners who don't respect the players as a group, and players who, for lack of any better option at this late date, have put their faith in lawyers and an unprecedented lawsuit, which, if ultimately successful, would bankrupt the owners and put the NBA out of business.

Billy Hunter: "Maybe we can start our own league. There are faculties where we can do that. Can't play at MSG but can play at St John's."

I wondered when this would get thrown out. I doubt Utah will make any lists of potential NBAPTA league venues.

Also: KOC served with papers today. Any lawyer types out there who can explain why the GM's would get named in the NBAPU's suit?

The article said the serving of papers to the GM's was simply a procedural move by the lawyers and has no real significance.

I think the whole thing is a joke. I would love to see the owners say, ok fine, we are done. No more NBA. And close up shop for 4 or 5 years. How would LBJ like his lasting legacy to be the fact that he always quits in the 4th quarter as his career draws to an end while he plays in Israel or China or whatever?

Going through the laundry I did find an old blue retro Jazz shirt. I did tear up a little.

**** you greedy capitalists!

Lots of players were smiling and joking just before the start of the news conference. Kobe Bryant looked pissed.
While Hunter said these negotiations have been incredibly stressful to him personally, he doesn't think the NBA season is in grave jeopardy just yet.

He went on to float the idea of a basketball league that competes with the NBA.

"Maybe we can start our own league. There are facilities where we can do that. Can't play at MSG but can play at St John's."

Hunter repeated that the disclaimer of interest route the union chose had the backing of every player representative.

"The players' decision to blow up the union was unanimous. They were high-fiving, sayin' let's get it on!"
