Lockout!!!

Starting to feel like the lock-out was pointless. Owners cave on hard cap, owners cave on luxary tax, owners cave on sign and trades, owners cave on bird rights, and just when a deal appears in sights Lebron, I can't doit myself or with just 3 other all-stars, James announces he needs Jamal Crawford of Steve Nash to come play in Miami, just days after Crymelo was speculating that the Knicks need Chris Paul.

NBA is still broke, the lockout accomplished nothing.
Like Zulu said unless you know something we don't probably should wait and see what comes out BUT I called it some 4-7 pages ago in a rant after one of the talks broke down that nothing would change and while the fan is always the loser in these it was even more so this time. I had, had hopes that at least they'd try to fix parts of the system but realized the owners used that as a PR move and just want their money same as the players.

...true dat! A real waste of time....unless, of course...it breaks down again and this time for the duration!

... or it really does get resolved in the next few days .. I'm sure most of these guys just want to get on the court and play some ball. Yes, CJ, I really do.

I bet the owners get the shorter contracts they were looking for and a slight higher penalty for going over the luxury tax.

Because the owners did not get every demand, the lockout diden't work? At the very least, they're getting 5% more BRI. That's hardly "nothing".

You think that those of us who were more sympathetic to the owners side felt that way because we wanted them to get more money and for the players to get less? C'mon now.

How do you cave on something you didn't even care about to begin with? It seems the only thing the owners ever cared about was what split of BRI they'd be getting, which was fairly transparent from the start.

cancel the whole season.I love basketball but the players need to go on welfare before they see the light .Billy and F ish are taking their troops right down broke street.they will be on corners begging ,,any change you can spare mister, and I will say nothing and just keep walkin by.

Looks like we move to phase II....the "Dutch" proposal! Stern said. "The next offer will reflect the extraordinary losses that are piling up now." But even a 50-50 split would be too high for some hard-line owners, because it would reduce only $280 million of the $300 million they said they lost last season. Owners initially proposed a BRI split that players said would have had them around 40 percent.

....for each month the lockout continues and the players refuse to sign....it drops another percentage point!

There's an obvious deal at 51. But 51 has become the elephant in the corner of the room because it's the number both sides feel weakens their bargaining position if they offer it. Someone has to get this number on the table in a way the players can accept without feeling they caved.

Pretty much, yes.

Why? I don't get why some people seem to be taking this issue personally. Is your bank account going to be affected by this? Will you feel better about the rich getting richer, just because they're not as rich as the other side? I honestly couldn't care less about the wealth of the people on either side of this. My only hope is that Utah benefits from a few league changes.

For that matter, the players shouldn't be taking this personally. They dealt from a position of strength the last 2 CBA's when the economy favored them. They obviously struck excellent deals. But the pendulum has swung back. Whether the 'correction' in the owners' position is unfair is irrelevant. They need to strike a pragmatic deal, make their money, and live to fight another day.

If they'd like a reference, I suggest they refer to every municipal union CBA that has been renegotiated since 2008. I guarantee teachers and sanitation workers and firefighters have all seen hiring freezes and minimal wage increases, and that's forgetting layoffs to which NBA players will never be subjected.

...51 may be the number....but only if it's 51 to the owners and 49 to the players! 50 seems to be the real number. Guess the players would rather start losing checks than take that 50 percent. These tattooed wonders have never been much on thinking....spent most of their time chasing women and drinkin!
