What's new

LOL at delusional BYU fans

I think it would be fair to compare, you know, when the game of football actually resembled the current game of, you know, football. Maybe I'm crazy thinking that's a fair starting point for comparison, but I'll let you guys decide whatever feels good to you.

Utah's glory years? You mean the last 5 or 10 years?

More like most of this board was either not alive or too young to remember BYU's glory years.

We don't appear out of nowhere every 100 years and have a couple good seasons. Check the link- Utah has a better head to head record than BYU, has a better all time overall record than BYU, has more bowl victories than BYU, and more undefeated seasons than BYU.

And if you just want to talk about one little specific period of time, then don't call out Ute fans for only talking about the last 10 years.

You guys have won 3 conference championships in the 00's and shared 2 with us in the 90's. Other than that, 1957 is your next closest. What don't you understand? That's pathetic. We've always been in the same conference, no?

I'm a BYU fan and I''d probably have to vote for independence as the worst offseason move out of the choices given, especially if taken at just face value.

1. Yes, Boise State was probably hoping to be in conference with 3 other football powers. No doubt the MWC could have received an automatic BCS berth at the next review. But the MWC is an upgrade over the WAC for now.
2. Utah to the Pac-12 was a no brainer. Congrats to the Utes on a HUGE step up. And once they become full partners, that $15M in TV revenue (or whatever it will be) will sure be nice.
3. Colorado and Nebraska. Lateral moves, IMO. In Nebraska's case, they hated Texas, which was holding the conference hostage with their revenue demands. Colorado goes to the coast to play games instead of the Midwest. Meh.

So it comes down to BYU. Yep, very risky. Absolutely NO shot at a BCS bowl in the next few seasons. But they get a hellluva lot more money and national exposure on ESPN. Make no mistake; this is about becoming a player when the next round of expansion occurs. They'll be in one of the "Big" conferences when those expand to 16 teams each. The Pac-12 will likely go after a couple of Texas schools and probably Boise State. College football is headed towards FOUR 16-team SUPER conferences. From there, you could very easily have conference championship games to determine the 4 quarterfinalists, then have say the Orange and Rose bowl host the semifinals and the winners square off in the Fiesta for the National Championship.

I think a fair starting point is probably when both teams joined/created the MWC. That was what, about 10 years ago? That seems recent enough to still be relevant but far enough back to get an idea of what to expect going forward.

The Utes have won the MWC 4 times. Period. What's pathetic is when some BYU fan says Utah has no history of winning conference championships, has always been and will always be losers, and he expects us to revert back to our old self. But when it is pointed out that Utah has more conference championships than BYU, more all time victories, more head to head victories, more bowl victories, and more undefeated seasons, all he can do is back track.

I don't know if it's pathetic or hillarious...

Bottom line Salty, make this season a positive experience for you and bet the farm on BYU -1 @ Air Force this weekend. That way when you look back on 2010's college football season, at least you can say you made some ****ing money while your Utes were entering into their next lost century.

So Utah is heading to a BCS conference, while BYU is heading to the WCC, and you are saying it's Utah who is entering the next lost century?

Again, looking at the overall records of both teams, overall head to head records, overall conference championships, overall bowl victories, and overall undefeated seasons- it was not the Utes who lost the last century.

We can go by recent history, or we can look at all time, Utes are better in both instances. The only time BYU is better is if you look at some random time period from a long time ago (too far back to be considered recent history), but not all the way back to the beginning.

How funny would it be if Utah went to another BCS game the year before they join a BCS conference?

You're the one that said my posts influence you so much. So ya, you're my puppet.

here ya go:

nobody on this board was alive during Utah's glory years. Fair statement?

K wait, you know were all alive RIGHT NOW, right?

I know alot of people say stuff like, "Geez this message board is really dead in the summer" but that is more in reference to the fact that this board really slows down during the jazz off season. They dont actually mean that this is a message board for dead people.

LOL! Always a fan of the toughguy internet shtick. Keep that up.

Just because you're a wuss doesn't automatically make me a tough guy. But the fact that you would imply otherwise shows which one of us is really the internet tough guy, lol.

I expect you guys to revert back to those days and I think that's a very reasonable opinion considering your history.

Duck, I really find this quote interesting. While Utah has done nothing but trend up the last 10-to-15 years, I was wondering if you could give me some ACTUAL EVIDENCE as to why this program is suddenly going to fall off the planet. And not only that, perhaps you could also give me evidence as to why you think BYU has a better outlook moving forward. I think BYU will have trouble ever reaching the status that they did under Lavell and unlike you, I can post some actual reasons, not just spew hate. For instance:

-During Lavelle's glory years, he brought an innovative offense to the the table that put BYU ahead of most programs in the country. Defenses were not ready for it, and by the time they were, BYU ran it so well, it was still hard to stop.

-IMO, the biggest reason BYU was able to have such success was the offensive line. Due to the fact that at that time BYU was the only NCAA school utilizing return missionaries, the Cougs had older/bigger offesnive lines than anybody in the country. BYU was averaging 300lbs on the offensive line long before anybody else in the WAC was, and it showed.

Fast forward to current day and it's not longer a suprise that BYU is not as dominant within their own conference as they used to be. Now a days if you don't average 300+ on the offensive or defensive line, you're considered a small football team. BYU is no longer able to line up 24 year old offensive lineman and dominate the pass blocking game. Not only that, the defensive game has evolved to the point where they are able to keep up with offenses better.

Sorry, but the playing field has been leveled and you're just not as special as you used to be. But have fun living in the past Uncle Rico.

speaking of USC, I just heard on the radio that Reggie Bush has been stripped of his Heisman

BYU will be fine. They have the network to thrive on their own like Notre Dame.

I think in the end this move is going to be a huge success for BYU. They can schedule better teams, and improve their standing in the national spotlight.
They will either end up in a better confrence, or enjoy the success from being under the lame MWC. They were being held down more than anything by them.
MWC needs BYU a lot more than BYU needs them.

Oh I don't think you ever have to worry about being mistaken for a toughguy. Not by me at least. Is this the part where you give your dimensions and how you can handle yourself in a fight? Cuz that's what you did last time and that's what I'd call being an internet toughguy.

Well said.

I don't care if you think I'm a tough guy. I have already said I'm not a tough guy. But since you're a wuss, I don't need to be a tough guy to handle you.
