Looking Ahead: Free Agents 2011

Next summer when AK comes off the books we will have some money to spend in the market. Just taking a glance at whats out there it looks like there are a lot of good big men and few good defensive wings. Top restricted free agents who are intriguing include: Al Horford, Greg Oden, Marc Gasol, Joakim Noah, Jeff Green, Spencer Hawes, and Corey Brewer. All of these guys are restricted free agents. Some unrestricted free agents include: Yao Ming, Tyson Chandler, Taushaun Prince, Carl Landry, Shane Battier, Joel Pryzbilla, Kendrick Perkins, Samuel Dalembert, Michael Redd. Also, Nene has an ETO.

I would consider it a failure if we don't end up with a decent defensive big man next summer. There are some pretty big young names who are restricted free agents and I think a lot of those teams will not let those players walk with the ability to match any offer sheet. I think a combination of Battier/Prince with Pryzbilla/Perkins would be a pretty solid addition. Any thoughts? Obviously we have another year to see what happens and things could change. Looking at the situation now, who do you think we should target?

Jazz already have $53-54 million in contracts for next year. I don't see them really being able to do much as far as free agency goes (granted they will always have their MLE) unless they somehow get Okur off the books as well.

Without the AK contract the Jazz will be under the luxury Tax level, but still above the Cap.... Unless the new CBA is different, which is a possibility.

If anything the new CBA will probably make it harder to spend above the cap. That is certainly what most owners want. With the Jefferson pick up not much money to spend more than likely. If AK plays well I hope we can re-sign and maybe bring over Tomic.

I'd also love to have AK back at around 7 million a year. I just hope we can somehow get rid Okur.

The Jazz have approximately $59 million committed next year to Deron, Miles, Millsap, Jefferson, Bell, Hayward and Okur. Barring a trade, under the current CBA we're looking at our MLE and nothing more. That said, there will be a new CBA anyway, but that's not likely to give us any more wiggle room.

Brewer is young and is a solid defender on the wing, something that we lack right now. We may have Bell this season but he isn't getting any younger. As for Miles, his contract has a team option for 3.7 mil for the 2011-2012 season. For that price he may be worth keeping but who knows with a year to go.

I think we can have Dalembert now if we are willing to trade AK, but all signs point to us keeping him for at least another year.

...free agents of 2011? There's not even going to be a 2011 NBA season!....there going to be lock out for at least 12 months, haven't you heard???
