What's new

Looking at the 6 teams the jazz have played so far, just how good are the jazz really?

The Jazz are a bit better than last year due to incremental improvements. Namely, Jae Crowder is more engaged and confident than last year. Rudy Gobert is stronger and more aggressive at getting above the rim. He wants to prove he's not just a defensive player. Mitchell is more focused and efficient. I think he learned a lot from working out with James Harden and Chris Paul over the summer. Ricky Rubio is more comfortable and in control, making the right read and the right pass far more often than not. Exum seems to be borderline unguardable by other teams' second units. Joe Ingles is more experienced and decisive having the offense run through him.

We're better than last year, and probably we're a top 3 team in the west. To take the next step, the Jazz need to replace Favors with a more versatile two-way athletic forward. The way the floor is spaced now, Favors is really just a 5.

What is impressive is the Jazz are winning on the road. Great teams win on the road. Considering that a few of our top guys have struggled and we are 4-2, I can't complain. I still think we beat NO with Davis, we have owned them for a while. Houston with CP may have been different but Houston is not as good as they were last year. Jazz blew the GS game so the only team to really beat us is Memphis. If the Jazz can be top of the division and #2 or # 3 in the West, I think they have a shot at the WCF.

If Mitchell and Rubio started the first few games better, we'd have beaten Memphis and Golden State. Mitchell was 0-fer in the 4th quarters of both those games.

Donovan Mitchell hasn't hit his stride yet, Rubio has been absolutely awful at times, our team defense has been underwhelming (by our standards) and we're still 4-2 having beaten some good teams on the road. Could very easily be 5-1 right now. Once everything clicks we'll end up being very good.

I wouldn't be surprised if we really miss Jae. He may be more important to this team than people think, we'll need Royce (his passing last year was contagious) and/or Thabo to return to form.

Take away Jingles, Rubio & DM45 we sorely need some assisting! If they are on the bench whose going to be that guy? Burks & Dante really don't facilitate for others, Dante has thrown some nice lobs though. Look at the assist numbers. Someone is going to have to step up in that regard.

I'll bet Jae plays or misses one game at the most. For Minny it would be nice to have Favs... Taj Gibson eats glass and will throw smaller guys out the way... not the ideal candidate to go against with small ball 4s.

4th in points
3rd in rebounds
5th in assists
5th in steals
1st in Turnovers

Not 1 turnover all season. No one else on the roster can make that claim, not Epke not Allen not Niang - Throw lobster tail some love

That no turnovers stat is quite amazing

Utah would be 2-4 if they played healthy NOP and HOU. Too early to say much other than that.

Naw we still win both games. Jazz OWN New Orleans, and we probably wouldn't have pulled the starters early in the third quarter. Also pretty pessimistic about us beating a 1 win Houston team. They weren't lighting things of fire WITH CP3. More to the point, the Jazz are getting good games out of their competition. No one has come out and laid a complete egg on us yet like we did with Memphis. Racking up wins against Western Conference teams not named Phoenix is good stuff, especially on the road.

I think we can beat Golden State. I really do. I feel that we could be fearless and steal the first game in a 7 game series. From there, we just need to trade punches until we get to Games 6 and 7. In Game 7, you just never know what can happen.

This Warriors team is the best team since the 98 Bulls. Our Jazz team from that year was one possession away from sending that series to 7 games. And that 1998 Jazz team was flawed, but played great together, believed in one another, etc. In terms of talent, the team this year dwarfs that 1998 team. Stockton and Malone are probably better than any current player, but we have more pieces, depth, and specialists than that team by a long shot. The team chemistry this year is very similar to the chemistry they had in 1998. They were mostly vets and we are mostly young, but anything is possible.

The Kings are playing good Basketball right now. 2 road wins against the Florida teams. They are fun to watch now that they are playing to the young guys strengths

This warriors team is the best team of all time imo.

2017 the Warriors won the championship after going 4–1 in the Finals (12-0 through the west playoffs), and their 16–1 playoff record garnered the best winning percentage (.941) in NBA playoffs history.

Then they swept the cavs in the finals last year.

Also set the single season record (73 wins) a couple years ago.

Realistically we are a single lucky bounce from 5-1

Per Sagarin:

5th toughest schedule in the NBA.

5th best team in the NBA, behind Warriors, Raptors, Bucks and Nuggets.

Feels about right.

Funny fact. Jazz are the only team in the West unbeaten on the road ( only other team in all NBA is Bucks) . There are also only two teams in the West without a single win at home - Jazz and Rockets .

I was making that comment last week that the Jazz might be the last team to get a home win for the season (last year they were the last team to get a win on the road is why it was on my mind) and looked it up today and the 1 other team is in the East, WAS is also 0-2 at home.

HOU is 0-4 at home so that means they've had a home heavy schedule and as such are about to go on a road trip so they won't have a home game before the Jazz. WAS has one on Friday against OKC and another against NYK, so I would guess they get 1 of those 2. So it delights my heart to say HOU might be the last team to win a road game, although if the Jazz don't win Friday against MEM their next home game is TOR and that won't be easy and the next home game after that is DAL, which would be their easiest home game (also their easiest game overall of the season thus far IMO since HOU was on the road).

Which speaks to the Jazz' strength of the schedule so far.
