My kids go to a charter school, no teachers union, no fancy tenure issues, bad teachers wash out, good ones are happy, and the school is very high performing.

Schools that get to pick and choose among students and can force out those that cause minor amounts of trouble will always out-perform those that take on the mission to educate every student, even those that are more difficult. If your charter school environment works for your kid's teachers, good for them. If you really think that personal politics and preferences don't play into decisions about which teachers are bad and which are good at your kids school, you're very naive.

Is it "the reason"? No. But there is a popular romanticising, if you will, of the gangster lifestlye amoung the entertainment industry that is directed at black Americans. Of course that has an effect. Especially when, at least from what I see, it is over whelming in abundance.

There are many talented musicians with a sizable black following doing rhythm & blues/jazz/non-gangster rap. However, the kids who feel the gangster rap says what they want to hear but the gangster rap. If you really want to get into some of the reasons for this, we can.

I do agree some people taking these gangster rap musicians, and pretending that they are causing the issue instead of responding to it, while treating black youth as a bunch of sheep who are too stupid to pick their own music, and plaster these images all over movies, news media, etc. with no context and no balance, further the racism in this country. They've obviously manipulated you on this issue; I can't ever see you saying that Buddy Holly, The Beatles, or The Rolling Stones, Kiss, Iron Maiden, or The Ramones were corrupting influences. To you, they were just musicians (whose music you may or may not have enjoyed).

First of all we were not talking about Rythym and Blues or Jazz in this thread. Focus.

Are they creating the issue? No. They are however reinforcing it. But I've already said that to you as you well know. Please stop being disengenous.

As for what I consider the final bands you mentioned. Please do not assume you know anything about what I consider them since at no point in time have we ever talked about them, that form of music or the affects that they had on the culture during their time.

seems pretty single-dimensional to think that those who are buying/paying for the music are doing it because it's what they want to hear...

what about doing it because they're just following what someone else is doing...
or what they think will make them seem cool...
or because they know their parents/guardians object...

lot's of reasons, and the specific meaning behind the actual lyrics is often pretty far down the list

Never made that claim. Rich white people do have a say in it. A rather large one. But there are plenty of rich blacks that do the same exact thing. Go look at all the rappers that have started their own record labels and market their own up and coming rappers.

Basically my point is that while this is not "the cause" of what is happening it clearly reinforces it.
