What's new

Lots of old Jazz games on VHS....

Well, have a lot of them.

Have most all of the playoff runs from 97 & 98 (Including the sweep of the Lakers). Have all the victories from the 1996 playoffs - that Seattle series that ended up going 7 (Bryon Russell's coming out party) My earliest game is from 1994 against the Clips, very shortly after Hornacek was traded to the team. They start to trail off a bit in the early 2000s. I have David Benoit's career high against the Spurs. (He was my favorite player when I was in high school - which in retrospect, I don't quite understand.)

They are *mostly* playoff games due to the fact Utah didn't get a lot of nationally televised games, but have a few regional games from the Lakers (Chick Hearn at the helm) and Chicago. (We got WGN in San Diego for some weird reason?)

Honestly this box has been sitting in a closet for ever and just looking through it today did I realize how much stuff is actually in there.

Does that help at all?

Sound like you are more experienced in this, you probably should do it, i honestly have only done a couple of these and I can't stop the recording(for the commercials) without finalizing the disc, so I'd have to use a program to edit the commercials out and burn the disc again. But JayQ just curious do you have a idea of what specific games you have?

Yeah, I have it set up where I can cut the commercials out without finalizing the DVD. That way I can fit 2 games on a DVD while still getting high quality.

I'd be more than willing to transfer these onto DVD's but I wouldn't be able to fly through it. I work 12 hour graveyard shifts and usually only have a few hours during the day that I'm awake. It would be a slow process but I'd love to transfer them. I have about 400 blank dvd's so that wouldn't be an issue. The biggie would be shipping them. 40+ vhs tapes would take a bigger size box, but you could ship them media mail and save a little that way.

Where are you FatChipper? I'm in the Los Angeles area...they are all in a box, and it's pretty good sized. Sounds like we have a similar problem with finding the time. Hmm..

just an idea maybe those of us interested in a copy of the DVDs could help with the cost of shipping the VHS's to Prodigy

...he's going to have to front the money himself....but I'll tell you this: I'll pay 10 bucks for a single game dvd of the Jazz kicking the Golden State Warriors tookus during that playoff run a couple of years ago! He makes about 90% profit....since the dvd is only about 30 cents!

If you're still looking for someone to transfer the games from VHS to DVD I Just finished transferring some old college football games from the 90's onto DVD. I could probably do about 4-5 games per week.

Have the entire Jazz 2007 playoffs on VHS, can easily transfer to DVD. Which game were you interested in?

....well, since even Bozo the clown could have beaten the Warriors on his own home court....I would be interested in any games the Jazz won on the road in that series! I think it was at least 1, maybe 2??? Put them on DVD-R and I'll send you the 10 bucks CASH in the mail when your ready to ship! If your a real pal....include the 6th game win (or was it the 7th game?) on Houston's home court as a bonus! You know, buy one....get one free!!!

CJ, you goin' for the AND1? Damn hopper!

I'm in the same process, trying to get all the old games I have onto DVDs to take up less room on our shelves. Similar to you, I taped pretty much any Jazz game that was on national TV from Finals 1998 to 2003. It was rare that the Jazz were on in my market and with it being the Eastern time zone, games usually wouldn't end until 2 or 2:30am, staying up wasn't an option since I was in high school. It is taking so long for me to convert all the tapes I have and cutting commercials out.

I would suggest mailing the tapes Media Mail since it's so much cheaper. Grant it, it'll take longer to get there, but the price is so much lower. https://www.usps.com/prices/media-mail-prices.htm

Good luck, and I hope to see them on youtube :-)

yes it does and I would be interested in the lakers tapes, I could take those off of you

I'd love to do this at some point as well. At the parents house I have a box of older stuff. Mostly 88-91. When I lived in Utah, and recorded a lot of games.
I've got some classic games like the Christmas Day win against the Lakers....I believe it was 88. Then about 10 games from Boozer's first or second year with us.
Stuff like that.

My only worry is quality. What program do you use Prodigy? Your stuff looks great.
I have Pinnacle Studio.

well I am getting that christmas 88 game on DVD, only problem is it is from pontel and I don't know how to rip dvd's do you have any jazz playoff games from the salt palace days also?

Carolina,
Got you Jazz/Warriors Game 4 on DVD. PM your shipping info and I'll send you mine.

If anyone has Game 6 of the '88 Laker series, I would kick in some $$ for a DVD copy. That was the most incredible Salt Palace game of all time, and possibly my favorite game I ever attended. Too bad they didn't carry it through to Game 7.

I've looked around here in Los Angeles locally for services where I could just take them in to have it done, and it's looking like about 10 bucks per tape is the average. Might be worth it just to have it taken care of by a production house that exists just to do that kind of stuff.

Truth is I'm realizing I'm a little leery to just send these video tapes out into the ether with a slight bit of "stranger danger" involved. It's probably about a $500 investment to actually use a service...but, amazingly (And even to my own surprise to be honest) it's an investment I might actually be willing to make. Maybe I could offset the price by selling sets to some of you guys. heh.

But I do have some classics in the pile.

There is one game in particular I'd love to see and never have - it's the double (was it triple) overtime game during the regular season with the jazz and the bulls when jordan got ticked off at the loss. I think it was the first or second year of the delta center existing? Would love to see that.

^ yeh that's probably worth it especially for your favorites among the bunch.

I don't have that game but i could probably get it. if you search online i know there are people selling it.

Yeah, I was at that game. It was the first Jazz game I ever went to. It was triple overtime. It's been on ESPN classics a few times.

I was at the triple overtime game too. I would love to have that game on dvd or something. Somebody has to have it.

well then I would be willing especially with the lakers games, and also I know someone who has that triple overtime game you were looking for, his name is adam ryan from australia

I have a couple of classic games on my computer:

2 games from the 06 Warriors series. One of them is game 2, I think the other is game 5, but I'll have to check
I have game 7 vs Houston that same year.
I have the 2nd half of game 6 vs Houston in 97....."Stockton, open three.....YEAH!"
I think I have game 4 vs Lakers in 1998.

The easiest thing to do would be to put these files on a download site and then everyone could just download them from there.
I used one last year, but at the moment, I can't remember what it was. I'll look it up and let everyone know.
