This is a most interesting statement by a sitting member of the US Congress about the recent New Zealand terrorist attack. Do you guys... read this as I’m reading this? “Use the courts and legislature to get rid of Muslims, don’t use violence.” Ummmm. Hmmm. Ummm...

This is a member of our Congress right now. Hopefully I’m reading this incorrectly.

I don’t read it that way at all. I think he’s just saying that if anyone (like the shooter in this case) has issues with certain things, follow legal procedures in the courts or elsewhere to handle such. He’s pretty clear that this violence can not be tolerated.

Maybe that's not the most generous interpretation, but it's a weird thing to say for sure. Hating Muslims isn't a "controversy" that needs to be resolved.

Mostly coming from this guy's camp. Let's not make the mistake of assuming the worst. Let him look like the jack ***, while someone with better communication skills leads appropriately.

Congressman Louie Gohmert (TX-01) released the following statement this morning regarding the horrific shootings at two mosques in New Zealand:

“"The shootings at the New Zealand mosques are egregiously reprehensible. The shooters need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law along with anyone who knowingly aided their efforts in any way. There are courts, dispute resolutions, and legislatures to resolve controversies – there is no place for cold blooded murders. Though New Zealand does not have the death penalty, hopefully its people, through their justice system, will send the message loudly and clearly that such barbarity from anyone will not be tolerated.”

that is the full statement - to me, it sounds as though he's afraid citizens might be inspired to "take the law into their own hands" in dealing with the shooter and any accomplices - and is reminding them that the justice system is the proper means for retribution

though then again, I'm not sure why a Congressman from Texas is reminding anyone from New Zealand about anything
