John Lucas III ✔ @Luke1luk Can't eat after midnight cause I have to take my physical in the AM

Yea. I can feel the excitment around here, can you?

Does anyone know why Jefferson, Biedrens, & Rush didn't have physicals? Or ever report?

Lucas is a free agent and the others are under contract. I assume when camp starts they will be given physicals like other players.

Generally physicals are required for all trades, but since the Jazz wanted the expiring contracts and really aren't worried about getting contributions from any of the players, they must have waived that requirement for the GS Three. On the other hand, they've signed Lucas to be a backup and actually play minutes.

Bill Oram ‏@tribjazz 8m John Lucas III’s contract with the Jazz will be for 2 years, $3.2 million, @sltrib has learned.

Two years is a little suprising.

I think it's hilarious a lot of you haven't come to terms with the fact that Lucas will be our opening day starter.

Not really. I'll bet there's a team or player option. Even if the Jazz were to draft a PG or bring Neto over, Lucas III would be the 2nd or 3rd PG at $1.6M. which isn't all that much over the vet minimum. Jazz are losing 5 players at the end of the season. Adding 2-3 in the draft, perhaps bringing over Neto. Need 13 players.

Kanter, Gobert, Biedrins
Favors, Evans
Hayward, Marvin Williams, Jefferson
Burks, Rush, McNeal
Burke, Lucas III,

Additions:
Jazz Pick, GS Pick, 2nd Round Picks
, Neto

I am not surprised that they signed him to two years either. He is a vet and sometimes you have to give them that extra year. Is the second year guaranteed?

Jazz starting five:

Favors - Biedrins - Gobert
Kanter - Evans - Williams
Rush - Jefferson - Williams
Hayward - Burks - McNeal
Lucas III - Burke - Burks

I'm a hundred percent sure that this is what Corbin will do. They will add one other stretch four and our roster will be set.

Hello? We are talking about Corbin. What makes you believe that he has no mancrush left on some of his veterans?

The chance that Rush and Lucas III start are not that small, imo.

I am really hoping rush is healthy and re-signs

Hayward, Jefferson
favors, Evans, Williams
kanter, biedrins, Gobert (although I think Gobert should get all the back up min)

Steve Luhm ‏@sluhm 2h Lucas has known Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey since he was "eight or nine." Says that relationship was a major factor in him coming to Utah.

Steve Luhm ‏@sluhm 2h Lucas III said his father thinks Utah is an ideal place for him at this point in his career. And he agrees with dad.

I never really understood the love for John Lucas. I remember Boone always praising him, and I understand that he had overcome a drug addiction and shared his failures and sucess with other young NBA players. But when I heard him interviewed, and when he was the coach of the spurs...he just didn't impress me. Maybe I don't fully understand the difficulty of overcoming drug abuse, or his role as mentor.

I have never had a problem with drugs, but I know people who have. It's hell to overcome. And in many (most) cases IF you can overcome the addiction, you come through it with lasting physical or psychological damage.

I listened to JL III on 1280 on my drive home tonight. He impressed me. He understands his role. Talked about making his teammates like family. Wants to bring Trey Burke down to Houston to work out with him. Wants to hook up with other teammates this summer to build group unity.
