Morris Almond never had a good season in the NBA. CJ Miles didn't have a solid season until he was in his 4th or 5th year. Lyles had a strong rookie year and then a big regression. That's the difference. We're not hoping for something we haven't seen from the player before like people were with Morris and CJ.

I'm sure the Jazz will address some of the deficiencies in his game then plan a course of action for him this offseason. I'm going to let the process take its course a little longer before I pass judgment. These guys come in so young that it takes them a minute to understand what it takes to stick in the league. Some pick it up a little earlier than other of course.

Comparing them by age they were pretty close. Lyles was a rookie as a 20 year old, CJ was in his third season as a 20 year old. Lyles averaged 6 pts, 3.7 boards, 44% FG, 38% 3 pt, in 17 mpg in 80 games played. CJ at age 20 averaged 5 pts, 1.3 boards, on 48% FG, 39% 3 pt, in 11 mpg for 60 games played. So their per 36 is really close (15 pts, 4 boards for CJ; 13 pts 8 boards for Lyles). All other stats are more or less a wash. CJ's actual rookie per 36 numbers were even closer to Lyle's with a true rookie year to rookie year comparison (CJ = 14 pts, 7 boards, but abysmal shooting).
I just don't see how Lyles game really translates to the NBA. I think his rookie year showed some flashes but CJ Miles showed enough flashes people thought he was the second coming of...something, who knows.
If even that. You can't play the 4 and not rebound. I think he will come around though. I just hope he starts playing within the game, and stops trying to force it. I remember when Favs was young and did that. All the time he would try to force. And he would turn it over A LOT. Need to let the flow of the game come to him. He will be alright. Just needs to grow up.
Lyles will be fine if he starts shooting the three well. If he never gets a three point shot he is going to struggle. He would do wonders for the Jazz if he could hit his open threes at a decent clip. He has really good handle and moves for a guy his size but that is only helpful if he can hit jump shots. The rest of his game is just lacking confidence due to missing his shots. Bad news is he is not really hitting them in practice either so its not a matter of playing more.
How many panda's would you want in return? Sounds like a good deal tho...

Worst case scenario this offseason is that Hayward leaves... so you can't really make a decision on Lyles until that happens. If Hayward leaves, we'd probably need to go into mini-rebuild mode and play all of our young guys more. Exum/Hood/JJ/Lyles/Rudy would probably be the starting lineup next season. If Hayward stays, try to trade Lyles for someone that helps us get closer to contending.
