What's new

Lyles is the pick at 12

I'd take prime Carlos Boozer off the bench, no question. The dude could kind of ball.
Hell, I would take him as a starter..... When he was in his prime 80% of teams probably would. He was pretty damn good

problem is Carlos boozer doesnt wanna be benched, he wanna be treated like a prime Jordan

Didn't mean to like this. Why do u always do this?

I wanted to read thru the thread again, so I bumped it. The topic was popular enough for 40 pages of responses. Now that Lyles rookie season is over, I figure, it's time to reflect.

I'm not going to quote posters who continue to try and besmirch my opinions in the 2016 draftee's thread, don't you worry!

I guess there is a god.

Trey Lyles is a damn good player, he's very skilled. He's polished offensively for 19 years old. he's got a chance to extend his range beyond 20ft. Prototype PF size. His shooting mechanics are really nice IMO, I think the questions about his efficiency from distance will prove to be unfounded. He's got an array of jab-steps, pumpfakes back to the basket and faceup moves, he's a triple threat.

Nice.

Sorry to sound crass but, who is Trey Lyles unknown to exactly??

He was a productive starter on one of the most visible college teams ever. He's got an amatuer resume that reads like many other 1 and dones... McDonalds All-American, he was Mr. Basketball in Indiana. An upper echelon 5 star player by all services. He got invited to all of the nationally televised showcase events like the Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoops Summit.

Listening to the Jazz f/o they're confident in their player development, so much so they prefer younger players to older ones. Seems safe to assume they've gone out of their way to peg a good project.. no?? If he's a good player NBA player right now is of minor consequence, I'd definitely argue he's a good enough project to get picked where he did.

Man PG_AB absolutely crushed the Trey Lyles projections

I think I'm pretty comfortable with Lyles over Booker.

Apart from Booker, who would we have rather taken? I'm just sad about narrowly missing out on Justise. Maybe Dekker?

Always crushin

I get the pick. He's a mismatch. Quick enough to get by most 4's, big enough to post up most 3's. He has good skills. He has excellent form on his shot, and he will be a good shooter. I think he'll be an alright rebounder. Stats are down bc of who he played with. Like I said, I like his brain, I like his skills, I just worry about his mentality. Seems soft to me. I'd take him over Turner tho.

Not bad. Not sure I'd take him over Turner though, I like Turner a lot.

I will say prior to the selection, I was very anti-Lyles. Thought he was way too soft. Once we picked him, I changed my tune. So I was wrong at one point.

I was anti-Lyles at first. For sure. I thought his body was 2 years away from respectable play. That was obviously wrong (and it's probably the case that his "balance" proficiency points to excellent core strength which is hard to see).

However, the second I saw Lyles play live, I changed my tune. Completely.

I really didn't liked the Trey Lyles pick then, but as I watched him play up close at the Vegas summer league I started to get it and soon realized he was gonna be a very good addition to the Jazz. This year, I don't like us taking Denzel Valentine. It seems like the players that I don't find decent gets drafted by the Jazz. lol Again, that player might prove me wrong once more? ╮(╯▽╰)╭
