Well, ESPN talking heads hated the pick, so that bodes well for the Jazz. I will go on record as liking the pick.
Knew next to nothing about Lyles two weeks before the draft. Finally one day I read up on him looked at the scouting videos and highlights. I was sold. I fell in love with his size, and the fact that he played sf and guarded on the perimeter, and fell in love with the mismatches he'd create, and felt he'd be a work in progress on his long distance shooting. Lol I was wrong on that. Needless to say after one day of studying him, I knew he was exactly what the Jazz needed.

Damn. What a terrible pick.
We just picked a guy with the ceiling of a role player. He's guaranteed to be average at best.
So this makes Booker pretty expendable in a trade?
Boring pick but I hope it pans out either through trade or he proves to be better than I think.
Color me underwhelmed. Still hoping we picked for someone else.

He sucks. **** this pick.
It's weird trying to defend this pick since I would have rather seen the Jazz draft about 5-6 other players before Lyles.
Still, is it possible to see how he performs in a season before the guy gets crucified here?
Gotta credit Locke too. He was Lyles biggest supporter.
So my thoughts are simple
I love Devin Booker's game. He's very intriguing to me. Love his playmaking. I think Booker will be a multi time all star.
I really like the Lyles pick though. I think Lyles has a fairly high offensive ceiling. Much higher than that of a role player.
What kind of sucks is that we seem to always pick a good player but not the best player.
Deron Williams over Chris Paul
Hayward over George
Lyles over Booker (I think Booker is gonna be a bit better)
Kanter over Klay
Burks over Kawhi
The last two examples are not as good as the first 3 I do admit.

I think he had some inside information that the Jazz were leaning that way and went out to "pre-sell" to the fan base.
Hopefully Exum does not end up on that list.So my thoughts are simple

Booker would be a great fit too. We desperately need a perimeter shooter of his caliber. But Lyles is definitely the better fit, at least for the current Jazz team, and I definitely think the jury is still out on who will turn out better.
Yeah. Locke has always been a corporate shill. https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1314&dat=19980615&id=9mJWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=4fEDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6865,5691163&safe=strict&hl=en
