What's new

Lyles is the pick at 12

Forget what I said. Probably bashed the pick tbpfh. If someone wants to quote me and flame away, go for it.

My dislike for the Lyles pick was unjustified.

I hope he ends up better than Devin Booker.

Knew next to nothing about Lyles two weeks before the draft. Finally one day I read up on him looked at the scouting videos and highlights. I was sold. I fell in love with his size, and the fact that he played sf and guarded on the perimeter, and fell in love with the mismatches he'd create, and felt he'd be a work in progress on his long distance shooting. Lol I was wrong on that. Needless to say after one day of studying him, I knew he was exactly what the Jazz needed.

That's natural fandom though, you don't watch much of a certain guy that your team takes and passes up the player(s) you're more familiar with and you hate it and the fan is often wrong....the only draft pick that the Jazz have remotely screwed up recently has been Burke. Kanter ended bad but he was definitely a great pick...the front office knows what they're doing when it comes to drafting/player development.

Damn. What a terrible pick.

We just picked a guy with the ceiling of a role player. He's guaranteed to be average at best.

So this makes Booker pretty expendable in a trade?

Boring pick but I hope it pans out either through trade or he proves to be better than I think.

Boring pick huh? Time proved you wrong a bit but I will admit Booker has much more excitement potential..

So my thoughts are simple

I love Devin Booker's game. He's very intriguing to me. Love his playmaking. I think Booker will be a multi time all star.

I really like the Lyles pick though. I think Lyles has a fairly high offensive ceiling. Much higher than that of a role player.

What kind of sucks is that we seem to always pick a good player but not the best player.

Deron Williams over Chris Paul
Hayward over George
Lyles over Booker (I think Booker is gonna be a bit better)
Kanter over Klay
Burks over Kawhi
The last two examples are not as good as the first 3 I do admit.

It's weird trying to defend this pick since I would have rather seen the Jazz draft about 5-6 other players before Lyles.

Still, is it possible to see how he performs in a season before the guy gets crucified here?

Thankfully I'm not feeling bad about my post right after the draft.

His shooting and feel for the game look promising. He has the ability to make reads and deliver the right pass or move to the rim, which is pretty rare for a guy that size. Lets see if he gets serious about gaining strength and committing to defense.

But Lyles is definitely the better fit, at least for the current Jazz team, and I definitely think the jury is still out on who will turn out better.

Hopefully Exum does not end up on that list.

Hood and Gobert were obviously both the right picks, so at least we picked the best player available a few times.

Booker would be a great fit too. We desperately need a perimeter shooter of his caliber.

I think saying Locke is a shill is pretty lame. If he was a complete shill he would have defended Ty Corbin for not playing Rudy. Instead, he said Ty was wrong. Many examples like that. Is he trying to create positive perspective in re Jazz decisions? Yes. Doesn't make him a complete shill though.
