NBA Trade Rumors: Shelvin Mack To Cavs, Jordan McRae To Jazz

According to NESN, the Cavs are now looking closely at Utah Jazz point guard Shelvin Mack. Mack is a solid veteran player, but he has fallen to third ...

I'd be shocked if this doesn't happen to be honest. The Jazz don't need him, aren't resigning him, so might as well get something out of him.

I don't understand why people want to dump Mack for (what end up as minor) picks or other garbage. Most people on this site have watched enough playoff basketball to have seen a few instances where a minor bench player provides a necessary spark. We're also continuously injured, and Mack can fill spots when needed. And he makes very little money.

I just don't get it.

I agree. And as much as I dont like him getting minutes, I understand his value to the team and wouldn't move him unless a team was willing to pay 'overs' for him, especially if it means making the reigning champs stronger.

I'm kind of surprised that people are dragging their feet considering all the negative comments I've heard about him around here. The trade scenario mentioned is Mack for Jordan Mcrae who made a big splash last year in D League (prolific scorer). As much as I've supported Mack during his short tenure with the Jazz, it appears to me that his run is over and the franchise has made the commitment to develop younger assets at that position. I'd do this deal for two reasons: 1) our offense still sputters at times and I think we could use another guy that can create at the end of the bench; 2) we currently have four point guards on our roster, not including Burks who also can play that spot in a pinch.

Mack is worth more than a second-rounder. Despite being benched his stats this year aren't awful (though he has turned the ball over way too much but he did the same thing last season as well).

Sure - we're not playing him but that doesn't mean we fire-sale him. Kay Felder sucks and is a turnover machine. If the Cavs want Mack they can make a good trade offer. There aren't a lot of PGs on the block - I heard the Cavs want Nelson also - the Nuggets are the 8th seed and Nelson is a lot more important to the Nuggets than whatever the Cavs would give them - even if it was a future 1st round pick.

Jazz probably don't want McRae. I know I don't. Cleveland has very little draft wise to give up and probably don't want to give up the one good piece it seems they have (2018 own first). Cavs probably don't want to give up Osman, either, which I'd rather hold out for if I'm Jazz rather than take McRae. I'd rather keep Mack than send him for some late 2nd who knows how far down the line or McRae.

Yeah. McRae isn't worth it. If they move Mack, they can do better than that or a late, late 2nd round pick. Getting the rights to Cedi Osman for Mack would be a great trade for the Jazz. I'd do that in a heartbeat. Otherwise, I keep Mack and hold onto him for injury insurance heading into the playoffs.

Jazz don't really need to move Mack. The Cavs really could use him. Hence sell high.

We ain't going nowhere in the playoffs. Utah isn't getting production out of the 4, the backup 1 and our 2 is inconsistent.

Mack is an UFA next year. He's not coming back. Get whatever you can for him. A second just may turn into a decent reserve. It's better than nothing.

Cleveland brought in Kirk Henrich, Lance Stephenson and another point guard out of the game yesterday.

I know they were looking at Cole & Chalmers as well. Both have played with LJ. LeBron said he'd be OK with Chalmers, Hinrich, Farmar or Stephenson if one of them can help the team win.

Yeah they're probably not trading for Mack when they can get one of those guys for the minimum. I'm shocked Stephenson isn't on a team somewhere though

Not any more apparently.
