What's new

Malone on ESPN: I'm not gonna start on the bench, but we're gonna ease into it..

I think he needs to calm down a lot to be on that bench. At the rate he's going, I think he might get a tech every other game.

And I assume you view this as a negative?

I think Karl should unite with John. John will be drawing X's and O's and Karl will be delivering message.

Malone has been described as unreliable by a lot of people including Greg Miller, but look at all of the evidence: He played for almost his whole career for the Jazz and showed up as best as he could the whole time, working his tail off for the good of the team. I would bet that the reason that he hasn't been satisfied with anything else in life is because it isn't his true passion: Basketball. There is a possibility that once he gets the hang of coaching he will put his all into it and become a great coach. Head coach? Maybe not, but if Ty (or someone else for the haters) can earn his respect he may be a great asset even on the bench.

I'd love to see John, Jeff and Karl coach a team together. The hijinks would simply be too much :) Imagine halftime-interviews with Doris Burke and Karl Malone

Karl Malone don't do Halftime interviews with Doris Burke. Karl Malone does post game interviews only!

I'm really curious WHY the sudden reversal by the Jazz brass? They have been very resistant towards needing a big man coach in the past. They now apparently either think Favors needs at least a legit mentor, OR Favors went to them and insisted on getting more/better coaching than he was getting. As of now, Favors is developing w-a-y too slowly...

I think it's pretty easy to gather from this situation that they'll "go young" next year. And to soften the blow to the average fans thinking "we need to win" - they've created a distraction by getting in Karl Malone to mentor these young guys.

The premise would be "If Karl is patient enough to watch these guys develop & grow - so can you".

I see Millsap and Al as being the reason they've kept Karl away. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Karl is not a fan of Big Al's game. When Karl was criticizing the team in regard to Sloan's leaving I think many of his comments were directed at Big Al.

Al and Paul were also vets and might not have felt they needed or wanted Karl telling them what to do or teach them. I remember Millsap bristling when a reporter suggested that he was in Karl Malone's shadow and said in no uncertain terms that he didn't think he was in Malone's shadow.

We're also seeing Sloan come back into the fold. I don't think it is entirely coincidental that Karl followed. Karl has 100% percent respect for Sloan and I'm guessing it goes both ways.

I'm excited because Karl is a fighter. He has a huge will to win and despite his hilarious use of the English language he's a very intelligent player. He identifies his advantage and plays to it and identifies the other players advantage and neutralizes it...by whatever means necessary. Hopefully Favors and Kanter take some inspiration from the kind of player Malone was.

My impression is Karl isn't gonna be an actual Coach, just a mentor, so probably only will be at practices. JMO...
