What's new

March Madness Thread

As much as I love watching St Mary's, I've noticed they tend to wilt a bit in the heat of the big game, still most of them will be back again next year as well. I expect them to lose to Arizona in the second round. Be interesting to see how Landale goes in the tournament, if he plays well the could upset Arizona.

Landale is their only possible NBA level talent (and I think he'll probably need to do a year or two in Europe like Aron Baynes before he's ready.) he has to play well for them to go deep in the tournament. I'm interested to see what Jock Perry the 7'1 kid from Melbourne will do next year, but when I look at the Gaels i see a team that is better than the sum of it's parts. If they played in a tougher conference I think they'd have the talent to go deep into the tournament but they just don't play enough big high pressure games.

I like Emmett Naar and Calvin Hermanson.. Those 2 are absolute dead-eye shooters and Naar is just a very efficient, nearly mistake-free player. Not a natural PG but he manages to keep a real nice AST:TO ratio.

They're the keys for a run, for damn sure. Different team when they're buzzing, all of a sudden the 3's start flying and then Landale can steady the ship from there..

I;ve said before Hermanson reminds me of the german shooter on that UConn national championship team, Neils Giffey(sp?).

I don't mind Dane Pineau either he puts in a workmans effort for them.

I can see Emmett and Dane coming home and playing here but i don't see them going much further than that, Naar just doesn't have the physical tools and Pineau lacks a little bit of size, both of them are rock solid players tho. Years ago both those kids would have a decent chance of going to an Olympics but such is the depth of talent with the boomers these days I can't even see them doing that. Vasiljevic and McDowell-White are both likely to be ahead of Naar on the depth chart for the national team, behind Mills, Exum and Delly. Pineau has Bairstow, Motum, Bolden, Simmons and that kid from Baylor all ahead of him at the 4 too.

Hermanson has to play well if they're going to beat anybody, he's got another year left will be interesting to see what he does as a Senior.

Vasiljevic is hands down a better prospect than Naar (and McDowell-White).

That Miami team is gonna be showtime next year, it's gonna rain 3's. Australian fans should probably be rooting for Bruce Brown to declare for this draft to clear more space/pt for Vasiljevic.

I'm talking about the taller of the two white boys who was ruled ineligible , their old man played league footy over here and was pretty good player (played nearly 300 game, won three premierships), i'm betting the boy will turn into a pretty good athlete and he can play.

What the national team really needs is a pure scorer at the 2, if only we had Andrew Gaze now...

key matchup in providence-usc tonight is elijah stewart vs a super athlete/defender alpha diallo.

i hope usc wins. they have a number of good pro prospects.

I think we'll start the next olympics with baynes, maybe maker, simmons, exum/ingles and mills. Too busy at work to think about the bench...

So i reckon Maker will be playing the four by Tokyo (that's where the next Olympics is isn't it?) Lets say Ingles is coming off the bench with Deng, Delly, Motum and Bolden. Throw in Ryan Broekhoff, that leaves one spot, if Bogut is still playing and healthy and wants to go then its his. Otherwise its either Humphries, Lual-Acuil, Mathiang or Landale. Then outside the squad there is Cam Bairstow, Xavier Cooks (whos at winthrop), Jack White at Duke, Jack McVeigh at Nebraska and Vasiljevic, spoilt for choice really.

Once those Sudanese imports get to the team they'll be much upgraded depthwise and upfront.

Josh Green in the HS class of 2019 will probably be better/more useful at guard than some of those guards too.

Jacob Epperson an incoming HS freshman (undecided) figures to be better than some of those bigs too.

I remember watching Exum at the world champs I dunno 3 years ago??? Too young for FIBA ball, you could see talent but he was too young to play with men. Bugger it I need some sleep

Refs swallow the whistle on an obvious taunting tech for Chemezie Metu after a nasty block. Those are the type of missed calls that shouldn't ever happen..

I'm psyched for the Middle Tennessee/Minnesota matchup. MT was my favorite Cinderella from last year.

I think you're gonna see the difference between one of these mid-majors and a well-coached team with 4-star talent.. Minnesota's a bad draw for them..

I just don't see Nate Mason letting them get punked..

I do have a 12 over a 5 tho in my bracket. Nevada. I trust Marcus Marshall!!
