Marijuana: Facts, Myths, and plain old Stupidity.

If you smoke weed you'll eat cheeseburgers?

Seriously, you want to know the difference between eating a cheeseburger and smoking weed? For me, I'd say the big one is that one seriously alters your brain and the other does not. Certainly eating cheeseburgers can become sad in and of itself if abused. But I consider it more sad that someone has to alter their brain to be happy. Comon that's pretty pathetic. Is life so bad you have to change the way your brain views it? And I don't see why you're all up in arms over it. It's not that far-fetched a position and probably one held by the majority of non-druggies and druggies.

Altering ones perception has been practiced for a long, long time. It's considered to be a natural part of the human condition.

Also, I personally enjoy eating carrots when I get high. Carrots are highly regarded as one of the most healthiest vegetables.

GVC's intelligence isn't at issue here. Trout, are you telling me you'd be ok with someone who smokes at least once a week watching your kids for a weekend while you and the wife went out of town?

It would depend on the person, and that's the truth. Smoking pot doesn't inherently make you a bad person. I don't agree with it anymore and feel much the same you do, but I can't judge someone because they choose to.

Someone who has taken prescription pain killers also probably won't want to get up off the couch... and yet sometimes such people DO try to drive. There's a law against that (I assume), and if marijuana ever gets legalized there should be a law against people driving while similarly impaired with marijuana.

No arguments here. In fact, from a pragmatic approach I don't care what sort of driving restrictions they put on it provided I can buy it and grow it legally.

Would you let someone who drinks alcohol once a week babysit your kids?

I see no reason to go there, Thomas, no reason at all. That just looks like you're giving in and taking cheap shots because your argument blows. This is classic Salty/Jeter/Sharpy rhetoric.

While I agree the end of the comment was a cheap shot; do you not agree that since Conan has no experience with the drug himself, his views are therefore limited?

Or classic Trout/Conan rhetoric. Anyway, I edited the post. If you edit yours, it will be as though I never wrote that to begin with.

My argument doesn't blow, and the point I make is true (although its impact is lessened with the pot shot, certainly). Kinda strange seeing you calling out someone out for a cheap shot.

Not really. He's pretty damn smart too. I expect that he has more interaction with weed than the majority of us. While most of us just see the awesomely fun effects of being high, he sees the damage that it can cause young people, their families, etc. While his opinion is coming from a different viewpoint, it's pretty stupid to write it off as limited without saying your viewpoint is also limited; because it is.

I know your argument doesn't blow, which is why I thought it was unwarranted and uncalled for. Just trying to help, sir.

p.s. Alex Smith is a bust.

Wait, what?

That basically was supposed to mean that I don't smoke anymore and I wouldn't want my kids/wife/brother/friends doing it. I would LOVE to do it again -- you know this -- and would be mightily tempted if it was in front of me. It wasn't meant to be elitist or anything like that, I was simply agreeing the Conan and it came out wrong? Whatever.

While that may be true, he hasn't really expressed any of that other than to the extent of "Drugs are bad, mmmmkay"

Just curious, since you neg repped me with the comment "I have smoked 10x as much as you", as to why you have quit smoking marijuana?

I wasn't aware that he needed to, at least for me, since I know his background. FWIW, drugs are bad, mmmmmmkay?

Well of course drugs are bad. If I wanted to live a perfectly healthy life I would not do drugs. The point of this thread (or at least to me) is to prove that Marijuana isn't bad enough to be illegal. Also, bummer about your wife. I thought you were going to have a legitimate excuse like you had an awesome job that drug tested regularly.

And of course he doesn't need, but he obviously started posting on this thread to express his opinion on the matter. His continuing to do so obviously show he has an opinion he feels passionate about, so I would hope he could do a better job at expressing why, otherwise I don't see his point in continuing arguing.

I could at least get that philosophy, but all I see from him is "Living the sober life I am like so morally and spiritually superior to you empty souled losers who need a drug to carry on with your pitiful lives." Though for some reason most people believe the condescending d-bag approach is a winning strategy.

I used to use "Smarties" like they were an awesome drug I couldn't get enough of. I've had my struggles with root beer, chips of all kinds, cookies, chocolate, pop, even cabbage. I just have to admit I'm an addict to anything and move along to the next thing somehow.

In the sixties I spent about a month in the library trying to read everything about THC/marijuana and cooked up a great smart-*** essay on why it should be legal, and let my girlfriend's big sister read it. She just laughed and said I knew better than do that, and I decided I didn't want to waste my time making it my issue with life.

I hate government generally, and wish people weren't addicted to laws.
