Max Out Matthews?

What are you 5 years old? Can you not do critical thinking?

The players will agree to smoothing because it gives more free agent classes an opportunity to get a bigger contract, not just one class getting a huge raise.

goddamn it, you're dumb.

The players absolutely ate **** in the last collective bargaining agreement... and they know it... and now they're gonna say to the league "naw, we'll take our payload later... you hold onto it for a bit..."? Not going to happen.

Besides, there's already plenty of indications that it's dead. Today.

And, moreover, your post makes no ****ing sense. Thanks.

I thought they already rejected the smoothing.

It will be 90+ mill, tax at like 110. The players are guaranteed 49-51% of BRI, so they get it regardless. The question is if the league can convince the players to accept smoothing (making the jump over a few years instead of all in 2016). The players rejected the first proposal so far. If they did smoothing, whatever it takes to get to 49% BRI gets split up among the players.

So no, it's not a for sure thing, but unless the players agree to modify the CBA for smoothing the cap will make that huge jump.

From a parity standpoint it would make sense for the players to accept smoothing. But it's hard to argue with their position that smoothing would be bad because it reduces players salaries for FAs signing deals in 2016 which in turn reduces their salaries in future years of those deals.

It's exciting that we were able to dump talent so that we'll have salary to go out and target 3 or so guys we let walk for nothing. Maybe we could also parlay all of our accumulated assets to target Korver and big Al.

I agree with both of you. It's possible that the league could come up with alternatives to its initial smoothing proposal, but it doesn't seem like the players' union has any interest in it so far.

I bolded a couple of sentences for you guys. The palyers get 49% min BRI period. Do they lose up to 2% due to smoothing, I have no idea, but I'm sure the amendment could be written to avoid that.

I'm almost leaning more toward Carroll than I am toward Matthews. He's a little younger, he has experience with Q, I like him defending 3s more than Matthews, and he'll come with a better price tag.

I know nothing about this stuff. Is the cap just going to jump that year if there is no 'smoothing'? And then will it just stay that way from then on? If so, a 'smoothing in' wouldn't be better for the players.

I'd be down for some JYD. It's just a unique opportunity that should not be missed. Probably the biggest FA year the Jazz will have for a long time.

I would love for Carroll to come back. If he can be consistent with the 3 i'd be happy. I think Matthews would be better, because he could be a solid offensive option with Hayward and Favors. I don't see Exum and Gobert contributing greatly to the offense, which is why I would want a solid 2nd or 3rd option. Carroll may be able to be that, but right now he is the 5th option for the Hawks. Mathews is a 3rd option behind 2 all stars, so he could easily be our 2nd option.
Good job guys

Yah, it will jump from about 70M, to about 87... practically every team gets a 'max' salary slot...

They'll eventually agree to it when the rest of the players realize that they are gonna be left out.

Lebron is leading that thing, and when can his contract expire? Exactly

When you told your last boss you wanted to leave, did he offer to wipe your *** after using the bathroom or did he just say, "see ya later." It was NOT Utah's choice to let Kanter leave. They were perfectly willing to play him 25-30 mins, have him test free agency and then match an offer (or not, depending on what they valued him at). They did the same with Gordon. Unlike Enes, Hayward went out, got his offer, and returned to the team when they matched, He didn't demand a trade, didn't bitch and complain, In fact, based on his physique and improvements to his game, he worked harder than he ever had in the off-season. It was Kanter's and Ergul's choice to demand the trade and make some pretty wild claims (best of his generation). That kind of attitude and absurdity killed his trade value.

Ah, I see. Not sure what Hack is talking about then. Having the cap go from 70 to 74 to 80 to 85 to 87 would be better for the players than it going from 87 to 87 to 87 to 87 to 87?

I wouldn't max Matthews, and I don't think the Jazz would either.

I'd draft Hezonja and see where Burks and Hood are at in their development. Exum and Hezonja have good length and athleticism on the perimeter, and I think both will shoot a good percentage from 3-pt range. Favors and Gobert defend the paint pretty well. Hayward glues it all together.

That's is what I am saying.

Where are you getting that I'm saying something else?

Anyone want to guess what JYD would cost? I think Matthews might cost 12-15 M to get him out of Porty. His max would be like 18-20 M per which is too high.
