Max Out Matthews?

Burks will never be better than Matthews is now. He just doesns't have that defensive mindset. Matthews is elite at 2 of the most important things in basketball: shooting and defending.

Burks is elite at making fancy layups.
You might be right about Burks never being as good as Matthews, but I think that putting pressure on defenders via penetration, and getting to the free throw line/getting the other team in foul trouble are important in basketball too

Man, I want you to be right about Burks so badly. If you're right about Burks, and I'm right about Exum, then we will win multiple titles with the team we have, just swapping out a couple of bench guys.

I wish Q would teach Burks the basics from Jeff Teague's playbook:

Drive to score. If you don't have a good option (something Burks has had a hard time recognizing), then kick it to the nearest shooter or pull it out for a high PnR.

Exum and Hayward should be able to instigate all secondary offense. I want Burks pushing the initial break as much as possible. Exum's respectable 3-point shooting makes this all the more possible.

Back to Wes here. Right now, Portland has $22,645,351 on the books for next year and 5 players. If they resign Aldridge, that is 20 million, and puts them up to $42,445,351. The cap is 66 million, right?

Toss in Lopez maxed out at 16,500,000 and that puts the trailblazers up to $58,945,351 or 7 million under the cap. That means is Wes is offered 8 million, Portland can't match him, correct?

So, in other words, Wes most likely won't be a Blazer next year. Correct?

That is assuming that they value Lopex more than Matthews. But in your scenario that would be correct.

I wouldn't mind him being a Jazzman. He fits but isnt the only choice the Jazz have.

So I dug around a little more and I don't think Lopez gets maxed out, and if he does I could see Portland passing on him.

So, if Portland signs Lopez to 10 million per year, that gives them 13 million in cap room. The question for Portland becomes do they sign Matthews for 10 per or Afflalo for 7 per?

But, out of the cap room, Portland should have some holds for their draft pick, correct, thereby reducing what they could offer Wes?

Basically, I want Portland's cap to dip under 8 million. That way we all but guarantee Wes is gone.

If another team wants Matthews bad enough they will take him from Portland. Seeing as he is starter quality, good 3 point shooter, good locker room guy and good defender he seems like the perfect fit.

I agree with LOAP, this off season is going to be fun as a Jazz fan.

yep

Put one of the opposing teams bigs in foul trouble and take the Gobert/Favors domination to another level.

I wish the nba would get their ish together and cut a deal with Netflix for hulu or Amazon.

This.

I would add youtube to that list. A youtube sports network would kickass.

Huh? 30% is respectable?
Did you mean Trey's respectable 3-point shooting? AS bad as Trey has been, he's >>>>>Exum as a shooter. And that's a scary thought if you're a Jazz fan.

Can Portland go over the cap to sign him?
Thier owner is rich iirc

He's gonna improve. Research the flavor of crow, por favor.

Matthews shouldn't have Bird Rights should he? He was not drafted signed a deal with Utah, then left as a FA to Portland. Matthews should be a free man this summer.

Even without bird rights..... the question is whether Portland can go over the cap to sign him
I don't think paul allen is afraid of luxury tax

Well, if Portland retains his bird rights, I'm not sure he leaves at all. Portland has a new tv deal coming up and cash is not an issue. Dang.
