What’s the controversy here?
There really isn’t one, I just wish Rudy didn’t get “thrown off” so easily. I want to believe this team can win a championship, but my honest opinion is that they are just a bit too soft and whiney for me to take them seriously as contenders.

But this is really on the medical staff. If they had just put Donovan on the injury report yesterday, there’s no potential anyone gets “thrown off.” **** those people.

Ehh. Sounds like they were preparing with him and had to scrap their game plan + being rattled.

But yeah, this organization is *incredibly* incompetent at times. Far more often than I’m willing to write off.

I would go all in on defense. Gobert and Favors a lot more minutes together. Take away the rim and the Grizz have no offense.

I would assume no Mitchell for any games. He's either not in touch with his body, or the medical staff screwed up, or this is mind/heart drama stuff trying to fingerpoint (Kawid Leonard crap) not being a man.

This offseason is a great example of that incompetence. I am a huuge Doke fan being a KU grad, but that pick made zero sense, particularly considering we gave the full MLE to Fav. We used a first round pick on a guy that is our fourth or fifth string C. Made no sense when we needed a wing defender.

Even lakers lost their first game against blazers last year. Relax lol

This loss sucks and this team is better than that. Like a lot of games this year they coasted at times expecting to make a run and win later. But its only the first game, we were missing our best playoff player, and our 3 point shot was way off. I think we will bounce back just fine. We need to win the next two at least though.

Our D was decent most of the game. Last 3 minutes we were without Rudy and had Morant scoring more than he would. But our D is built to make stops and does not create offense by it self most of the time.
On the other side MEM created a lot of Offense from steals and long rebounds. By playing without Donovan, our O must be more complex, so we can get open looks, with that more turns can be expected. With Don, we run more Iso and simplified schemes.
Now the question is how out of rhythm Don will be when back? How many minutes he will be able to play? Will he ever be back?

If I was to find some positive things than aside from playing piss poor and still managing to lose close I must say I am glad that we got the "speedy introduction to playoffs intensity course" by Grizzlies. We still have the better talent, should win the series and it should make us tougher going into the second round. If we were playing Clippers or the Suns now we would be in deep ****. We have to adjust to that level physicallity, it's better now than to win cute against some eg Spurs and got hit hard in the mouth in the next round by the elite team.
I must say I don't care much about Jazz being secretive with the media about the injuries but they should damn learn to comunicate inside the organisation better. Whole situation with players not knowing what's really going on with Donovan yesterday reminds too much that thing when Conley was officially sent to the bench in the morning last season and put back in the starting lineup in the afternoon.

And I have a question: how does it work with officiating crew? Is it the same guys throughout the whole series or they rotate between different matchups? Should we be prepared that the officiating will stay the same through this round?

The wait until Wednesday is going to be AWFUL after that performance. Such a long gap between games.

And even if we win that one by 50, Memphis is going back home feeling pretty damn good to get the split.

I will not be able to flush this sour taste until we win in Memphis and take control of home court back.
Memphis is playing with house money now. They stole HC and have all the momentum. Game 2 is a must win for us. You’re right, even if we win by 50 in game 2, Memphis won’t care. They got the split. And we cannot fall to 0-2 to these guys.

Only thing that worries me is the turnovers. I think everything else this game was flukey.

Rudy shouldn't be in that kind of foul trouble again.

Clarkson won't be that bad again.

Bogey shouldn't have a scoreless half again.

Niang and Royce will hit more 3's.

Dillion Brooks shouldn't play that well again.

Hopefully the Jazz limit the techs next game. Hopefully the refs don't call flagrant fouls on soft fouls again.

3rd string center I thought.

After sleeping on it, I've come to realize that this game was a prime example of the Jazz and how they are. Overlooking an opponent until the waning minutes and getting oh so close to pulling out the win.

My hope is that this is the wake up call they needed to realize that nobody is a slouch in the playoffs.

I fully expect the Jazz to come back more focused and less sloppy, ultimately winning the series 4-2.

How many games did Gobert foul out this year? Certainly not blaming this one on the refs but it seems like they were calling some pretty soft stuff on Rudy.

JC has me a little shook... he's been rough for a while and last night he was so so so bad.

Refs were wildly inconsistent. Thought both techs on Forrest and Niang should have been double techs or nothing. The flagrant on Bogey was serious ********... you can't allow Brooks to do what he does all game with only a couple foul calls and simultaneously decide that amount of contact is a flagrant.

Brooks is a problem. He's clearly comfortable against us... he's had a few really big games like this. It goes back to our play one way style and trust math. It works until a guy gets really comfortable in that range and is good at it and continues to make shots math says he should not. We likely still win this series... its just some of the same long term issues... we don't make perimeter guys uncomfortable.
