Game Thread May 23, 2021 07:30PM MT: Jazz vs. Grizzlies - Game 1

Added to Calendar: 05-23-21

Tell me how this is a technical:

and this is not:

Tell me how this is NOT a flagrant:

and Bojan contact was..
Same with Rudy loose ball foul. JV did the same at least 2 times with no call.

I have not seen any of the post game interviews, but somebody has to be vocal about it. Let the fines come, Jazz as an organization is just too passive with NBA BS.

We obviously lost because we've played like ****, we have to own that and improve. We could have won this game and can will this series even with this type of officiating, but next round we need it to be fair, so it's time to complain a bit.

This is where Quin has to engage in the Phil Jackson psychological warfare... but I think he thinks he’s above that. It’s annoying but it works. A mention of how Brooks is able to murder people but Mike is reffed like a rookie and getting called for hand checks sometimes becomes a narrative and it’s starts to influence the refs. Refs can absolutely control a game and influencing officials has a material effect on winning.. its stupid but sometimes I guess you have to play some stupid games.

But if you're the Grizz you're paying with House money. Game 2 is a must win for us. And now we need to steal one from their home court which will be a difficult task, especially if Mitchell isn't playing or isn't near 100 percent.
Agreed.
Having agreed though, I'm extremely confident we win this series and think we will win the next 4 in a row.

Unfortunately in today's league whining is effective. JV screamed like a bitch in ALL rebounds that he had been boxed out and his offensive possessions. At least in one of them he got the whistle. It was Rudy's third and it changed the outcome of the game.

REALLY rough night for Clarkson: 5/16, 0/8 from 3 and 4 turnovers.
Clarkson was affected by the days off more then most it appears. My bet is if Mitchell plays everyone's efficiency goes up. This blindsiding everyone about him sitting out **** sure didn't help.

I'm beyond livid toward game one. I hope the Jazz are even angrier than I (no doubt Rudy is) and expect them to stomp a mud pit into the Grizzlies' *** the rest of the way.

I'm still pissed.
However let me ask everyone a question:

If I were to tell you all that in a playoff game we didn't have Donovan, we had our second worst shooting game of the season, bogey scored zero points in the first half, we had major turnover problems, Clarkson played horrendous, the refs ****ed us all game and Rudy fouled out in 25 minutes of play, what do you think the score would have been?

If I knew all that before the game started I would say the score would be something like 110-88. Maybe even worse.

I don't know if that's the best Memphis can or will play or not but I do know that's the worst the jazz can or will play.

And I have a question: how does it work with officiating crew? Is it the same guys throughout the whole series or they rotate between different matchups? Should we be prepared that the officiating will stay the same through this round?
I think they are trying to minimize travel so it will be at least the same for both home games here. Might be a different team in Memphis but again will likely be the game team for both home games there.

I get what you are saying but not gonna take any moral victories. We got punched in the mouf.

Answer the question though. What would you predict the score to be if you knew all of that ahead of time?
Not that it matters, I'm just curious what people would predict

It may be one of those things where you knew we'd have a bad shooting game in there but because it was game one its exaggerated.

They can play better... we played pretty bad so not sure we will play worse than that.

Prolly like a 15ish point loss.

I hope so but I'm significantly less confident. Especially after blowing it to Denver last year. No way I thought we were losing that series after going up 3-1.

I want us to beat them down next game. And it would be real helpful to throw the hammer down in games 3-4. Hope that happens but doubt it seeing how hot the Grizz are and how pathetic we looked.

Yeah, but with all respect it was only Memphis. If we had a game like that again Phoenix, Clippers, Blazers etc we would have had garbage time going into the 4th

Agreed

It takes 4 to win... not over.
That said, it was a known concern that to live and die with the trey not always translate to postseason ball...
I consider MEM a tough team with some guys playing at a very good level and a thick skin for this playoff business...
They're not gonna fold any time soon. You have to beat them.
Hope our guys are ready next time, mental and physically ready. They were not last night.
And I expect they don't play Mitchell if they have doubts on his ankle.

If Mitchell doesn't play Wednesday then I'm gonna lose it
