Game Thread May 23, 2021 07:30PM MT: Jazz vs. Grizzlies - Game 1

Added to Calendar: 05-23-21

I think Mitchell was enraged he wasn’t playing - his ankle is fine it doesn’t make sense. If his ankle wasn’t fine why say he’s playing that afternoon then change your mind??

I'm not worried about us losing the series; mainly because Rudy's rage will put fear into anyone on this team who doesn't play playoff basketball.

I feel like Ingles and Niang will play really well game 2 and Conley won't be as bad as in game one (not saying he'll play lights out but he won't be as meh).

Favors played great game one - I don't expect him to have double-digit rebounds every playoff game but if he can do 70% of what he did game one for the rest of the series it's a solid contribution.

I look forward to seeing DM out there - I don't know what to expect but I'm excited. If Mitchell plays fairly well I would be surprised if the Grizz win another game.

Answer the question though. What would you predict the score to be if you knew all of that ahead of time?
Not that it matters, I'm just curious what people would predict

I agree to only lose after that **** storm..if the jazz drop game two ok be mad..be really mad. The bigger issue is then keeping Donovan out when we all know he was ready to play. Makes no sense to me. Even playing Donovan ten minutes last night would’ve won us the game

I had to listen on the radio 12/80. They were calling the game a "street fight". This is indeed our weakness. If we can't hit the 3s or keep our defense out of foul trouble, we have a struggle. We almost caught up with them.

I think this was our worst game in this series, home or away.

But its a cinch they'll try this every game. If we can get by them without losing a key player we will be doing pretty good.

If we can match the physicality, our talent should take care of the rest.

Yous all remember the 1998 first-round series between the Jazz and Rockets? Utah lost game one in a blowout, came back and won game two, but then dropped game three in Houston. Back then, it was best-of-five, so, Houston was literally one win away from pulling off one of the biggest upsets in NBA history (the Nuggets shocking Seattle as an 8th seed four years earlier was massive, too, as Seattle looked like the favorites to win the title with MJ retired).

Utah trailed 21-10 at the end of the first quarter in that elimination game ... but came back to win it going away (dominated the fourth quarter) before winning the series in five in Salt Lake.

But holy **** it didn't look like Utah could pull it off.

Truth be told, had Barkley not been injured in game four, I don't know if the Jazz actually win that series.

yes i forgot the lakers lost their round 1 game 1 to the blazers last year and so did the raptors on the prior year.
Problem is we have no LeBron, A.Davis or Kawhi level players on our team. I am not panicking and fully expect us to win this series but those statements about previous champs losing game 1 does not really make much sense to me.

You're reading too much into it.

We likely win this series still. Tomorrow is obviously huge. The amount of things that broke the Grizzlies way was pretty incredible. I think if we win game 1 its a 4-1 series win... as it stands I think we win in 6.
