What's new

Maybe we got the Sloan/DWill thing backwards...

A good variety of opinions here; thanks!
The other obvious piece is Greg Miller's reasoning for doing the trade in the first place; Deron was giving no indication he would stay in Utah, which understandably made Miller uncomfortable with passing up this trade opportunity. Since we were already high on Favors before the draft, may even have tried to trade up, plus getting 2 lottery picks and a talented, dynamic and still young PG in addition, this certainly had to look like a solid deal.
And, we are now in a much better position to re-sign Kirilenko and/or Okur, which we would not likely do if Williams got a max contract here. I know we tend to value skilled big men very highly.

Why would you want to re-sign AK or Okur? Both guys are way overpayed for their production. Okur may never play again. There is no way AK is going to take a major paycut from 18 million down to 6 million which is what he is worth.

Just today when asked if he would re-sign with Utah guess what Devin Harris said? He didn't want to talk about it right now that he just wanted to adjust to the new team. Should we trade him before he decides he wants to leave.

The Jazz made a massive mistake with the latest Okur contract.

Miserably enough, it may have -- just as predicted -- ended the DWlll era in Salt Lake.

The Jazz ensured that Boozer wasn't coming back when they matched Millsap and extended Okur. There was not enough money to keep Boozer. I really don't blame Boozer for leaving because of the way the fans treated him and for the fact that the organization pretty much showed him the door. What the Jazz should have done is traded him for some picks and cap space along with a player the year before. He was an asset that the Jazz just let walk and they lucked out when Chicago worked the deal so the Jazz could get a trade exception to get AJ.

I personally think Miller and KOC mismanaged the Sloan/DW relationship and they both wanted them gone so they could put their own stamp on the team and get rid of two guys who had no problem complaining about losing all the talent that left SLC. I know Sloan wanted to keep Boozer and Matthews. DW several times expressed his displeasure about the direction of the team. I don't think it is too far of a stretch to think that Greg has his way of doing it and wants to put his stamp on the team. Perhaps KOC didn't want to defer to Sloan any more , since there has been some speculation that KOC wanted CP3 and Sloan wanted DW. Who knows? I am sure there are a lot of opinions within the organization just like there our on this board. We willl never really know and I am ready to move on and see what happens. Part of me is very excited for tonight's game.

I think that's it.

Hopefully Greg's stamp will be an effort to bring SL a championship, and not an effort at a money grab.

Time will tell and it begins tonight!
