I just saw in turkish sports news, he basically claimed that he understood he wont be as good as he was before physically after injuries, thats why he retires. Discuss

It was definitely time. When he first started playing for NJ last year, he actually looked OK. But after two or three weeks you can tell his body just couldn't take the pounding anymore.

Bad news... Unfortunately, Memo has decided to end his professional career officially.

Okur said, "As a sportsman who represented my Türkiye in the best way at highest level for years, as a result of back to back injuries I suffered especially last 3 consecutive years, and after all of my tries to come back, I now understood that I will never be old Mehmet Okur again. While I was practicing with my private trainer, I recieved offers from countless NBA teams and elite teams of Europe. Despite, especially if a player's body who passed a treshold would not allow the player to be the same as his old self, it's time for him to say goodbye to the sport he's long loved and become a part of his life, and this moment has come for Mehmet Okur"

As I said in another thread he seemed like a good guy who did good things for Utah. I wish him nothing but the best.

So do the Lakers.

Lakers have what 15 or 16 NBA championships and the Jazz have zero. I know championships are a team thing but you have to have great players. I loved Memo when he was healthy but he is not a HOF or even multiple years All-star. Besides his time with the Jazz wasn't that long. I think the Jazz have way too many jerseys. The only guys who should have their jersey's are Hall of Fame type players (Pistol, Malone, Stockton, AD). I don't think Hornacek or Griffith should be in the rafters.
