MEMO Retired

Love the guy. I'd love to see him coach and I'd still love to see his number retired here. Plenty of #'s to go around after all. Might be a great shooting coach if Horny ever goes elsewhere or gets promoted...

No. The Jazz already have far too many jerseys retired.
Agree. He was a very good player, but not one of the all-time Jazz greats. Not enough to merit having a jersey retired, although I would put Mrs. Memo in the HOF.

I was a big Okur fan. Outside of his 1st season, when he showed up out of shape, I felt like he gave 100% effort every year after that, even trying to play hurt. He had that one magical stretch when Boozer was out where he and Deron were running the pick and pop to perfection. IIRC, he hit nearly 60% of his 3's for close to a month.

Best wishes, Memo.

In all seriousness, Memo might just be the most beloved Jazz player of all time, even more than Stockton & Malone. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything bad about Memo on a personal level, or even about how he played the game (given his limitations).

Best wishes for the future, Memo, and may you have much success in everything you choose to do!

I just saw in turkish sports news, he basically claimed that he understood he wont be as good as he was before physically after injuries, thats why he retires. Discuss

....just another guy the Jazz signed/had that owes them a big rebate for underachieving. Stole about as much money from the Jazz as Ostertag and Klinko did!

Happy trails, dude.

Still bitter about that extension, though...

The Jazz made a shrew move though by trading him to the Nets. It was a great salary dump and created the trade exception used to acquire Mo. Granted, the season after the injury was a waste.

More highlights please. I remember Prodigy made a great Memo mix, but it looks like it has been removed from youtube. Prodigy, any way to get that back up or post in this thread?

You are nuts.

...I may have been a little too rough on ya! But when you start talking about Stockton and Malone in any sentence concerning the Jazz and the franchise....well, there's Stockton and Malone and EVERYBODY else is a distant second in ANY category or emotion, including "beloved!"

I've heard a lot of stories of Stockton being rude and blowing people off. And while Malone was much more of a people-person than Stockton, his on again/off again feuds with Larry Miller rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Plus he had a kid with a 13 year old girl when he was 20. So yes, I think there's definitely a case to be made that Memo was more beloved than Stockton & Malone.
