It seems like you're the one modifying your argument here, but whatever.
It's in no one's best interest long-term for the team's best player to play 40+ MPG. Whether that's Durant saying it (and he did), Lebron, or Deron, they're just speaking the truth. It's bad for the team and bad for the player to play that much, I can't believe anyone would believe otherwise. I'm not surprised Jim Rome has the stance that he does, he's a sports radio shock jock. I enjoy his show, but not for his awesome insight, I enjoy it to get laughs and some interviews.
