What's new

Memphis @ Utah :: Monday : December 6 : 2K10 :: 7 PM

AK should stop doing whatever he is trying to do, which is certainly not playing efficient basketball. Lots of threes and not being able to capitalize on terrible zone defense by Grizzlies.

Terrible shooting night indeed but the boxscore doesn't tell the whole story. He was in Rudy Gay's grill every second he was on the court.

When your franchise player has to take 22 shots to make 18 points you did your job.

I wonder if our lack of energy has anything to do with Jerry not playing some of the more energy players, namely Evans.

A guy like Evans could jumpstart a team (and crowd) with his playmaking ability. Seriously, the last two Jazz games have been extremely boring to me (and to most fans I think). We've lacked energy in ENERGY SOLUTIONS and our team has greatly lacked emotion and playmaking ability. A hustle play or amazing dunk by Evans could ignite the crowd and get our team playing with more energy and emotion.

I also wonder if some of our starters are feeling fatigued. It seems that our rotations are extremely tight, even though it's early on in the season.

I just don't understand why neither rookie is getting ANY burn. I understand giving the more proven players the majority of PT. But to completely relegate Evans and Hayward to the bench? Weird. I know I know, it's Jerry so I shouldn't be surprised.... But still!

I agree. I think AK was active and tried to push the ball, go inside, which were the keys to blowing out these exhausted Grizzlies. He was not efficient but his defense and effort was a huge part of win.

Glad to see Raja and CJ working so well together. D Will is the man. So glad he decided to carry the team to a win again tonight. Memphis is better than their record shows. They've got wins over some impressive teams this year.

Right now there is overdependence on Deron. I dont know if the Jazz FO realize that Deron has to carry a lot of the load for this team on a nightly basis. We dont have a Caron Butler or Eric Gordon or Gay at the wings to take some pressure off of him. I hope Deron is not worn out come playoffs. He should'nt have to be the scoring leader for this team ideally.

By "Jazz FO," you mean "Jazz coaching staff," right? The FO did their job: retain Price and bring in a backup with experience who can run a team.

This is another example of Sloan going away from what's working. I don't see bringing Deron back in sooner (i.e., within 2 to 6 minutes after a rest) as being necessary. Price has been doing just fine, most of the time, alongside Watson, and if he isn't, there's no rush to bring in DW; go with Hayward or AK or Bell or CJ--whoever's rested, doing well, and not in at the moment. In the Dallas game, Deron was flat footed when he got supplemental minutes with the backups early in Q4, and Utah lost their grip on a chance to win. Besides, Price could handle Terry.

The coaching staff has gotta do a better job of analyzing combinations and figuring out what is being effective on a given night.

Bringing in Watson is not the kind of help I am talking about. Although Watson does help with the bench. Putting a legit starting 2 next to Deron is the kind of help I am talking about. Until we get that winning a championship will be difficult. Right now we are Deron+bunch of good role players. Out of those, AJ has the potential to be a star someday in the near future, but not anyone else.

The rest of your post is the usual blah blah.. I am surprised though that it did'nt end with "coaching 101".

Utah doesn't have the financial flexibility to bring in a "legit starting 2", and a rotation of Bell-AK-CJ-Hayward-Price (selectively)-Deron (very selectively) should be enough at the 2/3 (PGs won't play 3 probably) for a coach worth his salt to handle. It's a stronger coverage of the 2 than Utah has normally had. Utah also has a better PG rotation than they have in a long time, perhaps ever. So I'll take my "blah blah" over your irrelevant impossibility.

Also, your broad sweeping claim about the team being Deron + a bunch of good role players (except maybe AJ) is really understates (possibly insults) the level of talent on this team. Again, Utah's FO has done about as well as they could--at least in the face of overpaying AK (which seemed to have been LHM-influenced) and foolishly renewing Memo (which would've put them only mildly under the cap). In any case, right now Utah has height, shooting, defense, strength, and depth. Not a ton of speed, but it doesn't seem that they have been getting beaten much due to speed. It's been more rebounding, interior scoring, interior defense, and sometimes outside shooting--but it doesn't seem like many or any games have gone by where there weren't players who were these things but were not used sufficiently.

Several--if not all--of the losses this year were winnable with better in-game adjustments. Tiring out Deron by subbing him in for a combination that was working is crazy. Letting PM + AJ get pwned on the boards for quarters on end when there are alternatives (that's two alternatives, not just one, who don't need to be played together but who have been pretty effective together most of the time for up to 15-20 MPG each; longer stretches are unproven) is foolish. Playing Bell for more minutes then CJ when CJ is doing well (and RB not so much) is puzzling at minimum. Ask Rick Carlisle how valuable in-game adjustments are. Oh, and btw, better in-game management doesn't require an unlikely trade or an outside consultant or an overhaul of the system.

IN other news...

Im sick and tired of these mother ****ers shooting jumpers at the beginning of the game...I mean, their offense is predicated on inside-outside and they always seem to start with shooting garbage jumpers...

Memphis-the bell tolls for thee. Good to see Bell knocking them down. If Bell and Miles can continue to play like that and AK has a normal offensive game we will be tough to beat. Hopefully, Fes recovers quickly. Really wanted to see him pummel Lebron.

On the brighter side. Both AK and PM should have break out type games against the HEAT due to the law of averages. I would rather win Ungy then lose anything so who cares this is what good teams do. They find a way to win even when they aren't playing very well.

Jarron may be gone, but he thankfully he left Millsap The Sweater Vest.

Sorry I missed this.

A+

My life sucks. I'm constantly forced to watch these games days late which means no ESPN or this board until I can catch up. I love the team efforts but I'm getting a little restless. We're really not playing to our potential which makes me feel great. But we really won't keep winning if we don't start putting together more complete games. I'm not being Debbie, but I'd like to see a few more wins by domination than heart.
