Miami Hurricanes To Get Death Penalty?

No way they get the 'Death Penality' that SMU got.. just not going to happen to Miami.

And I for one (Call me dumb if you want) that says the guy that is in jail, for fraud, for 20 years, is somewhat full of crap but somewhat truthful. I mean for hells sakes, he is in JAIL for FRAUD and took Millions of dollars from people in a Ponzi scheme. I love the mob like affect that the media has on everyone now a days. The truth is always somewhere in the middle meaning they are guilty of at least some of the stuff.

Agreed no ifs and or buts they are not getting the Death Penality. They will get hit with sanctions or other things but the NCAA will not give a school the death penalty especially when they have not been hit with huge sanctions multiple times.

The message will be, "If you're a big school and cheat, the punishment will depend on how much money your program bring to the NCAA."
Exactly. USC got a slap on the wrist for all the violations that ocurred during the Pete Carroll years. Granted, the Miami allegations are MUCH worse, but money talks. The big name schools will never receive the death penalty; there's too much money at stake. SMU was a smaller school, insiginificant to ther overall landscape of college athletics back then, and the NCAA had real clout. In today's world, the NCAA is really subservient to the BCS.

I agree. There is probably some (a large amount) of truth to what this guy is saying. But he is in prison for stealing millions of dollars. Nothing better than a jail house snitch.

Didn't he name specific players who took his offerings? Has any stepped out and said "No I did not sleep with his whores.".

Yes he did name specific names...

I mean I slept with Jimmer, Jo. Beck, Max Hall, Austin Collie, and Brett Kiesel's Beard and they paid me for it.. I also gave them nice new gold plated *****'s as well to use when they get home valued at over 2k each. Then we went to Best Buy and bought a camcorder to tape each other next time. (Disclaimer - I am in jail right now as well but this information above has been verified by Yahoo as legit)

According to sources "in the know", there is over 20,000 pages of info (4 times the size of the last health care bill) that includes pictures, receipts, and interviews with over 70 people and it all seems to verify the accusations. Like you, I'm not too quick to believe the word of a criminal but it's starting to sound like there is an overwhelming mountain of actual evidence.

Soooooo how does a (recognized) college get the death penalty then? Does the college President have to be Muslim and black and homosexual and love Communism and eat veggies on the 4th of July while calling the cops on kids lighting off fireworks have to make an assassination attempt with the entire Football team on an NCAA official?

I mean, for crying out loud! Miami is a repeat offender. They're dirty rotten, and haven't learned from the times that they've been punished before. Decades of corruption. What more do you need???? These events weren't isolated. 70+ players, coaches, and who knows perhaps even the President or AD were involved! In the 90's they were punished, it obviously didn't change a damn thing.

Basically, it seems like if you're a recognized NCAA program, you can do anything you want.

I think for the sake of the system, they need to kill Miami. Surely, prostitutes, abortions, and decades of corruption warrant it. But also, I think someone needs to have their *** kicked. Since it's obvious that powerful schools aren't learning their lessons.

You cheat the IRS, you're freaking scared to be screwed. You cheat the NCAA? You laugh and maybe just maybe "punish" yourself... Basically give some stupid program or failing coach a timeout. Then you go on cheating again...

Enough is enough. Time to stop using the fly swatter and bust out the bazooka.

Of course, they won't do that. Miami is the U!!! If this were Utah St, they might... But this is South Beach! The King! Dwade! Jimmy Johnson! The UUUUU! Money money money!

I give Shannon mad props here though. From the first day he was hired, he told his players to stay clear of this scumbag and then continued to harp on this, even having people follow the guy or athletes to see if they were communicating at all or something. Good for Shannon for being a stand-up guy in this day and age. At least somewhat anyway.

Yeah, but if you give Miami the death penalty, then all the other teams in their conference lose money and suffer. Miami getting the death penalty would just cause too many people (outside of Miami) too much money.

Fantastic! Quite possibly the best point made in the thread.

I wish that the entire NCAA would lose money because of Miami's corruption! Maybe if more conferences and schools felt the pain, then maybe they'd help clean themselves!

Folks, do we really not realize what we've witnessed in just the past year? From Oregon's shenanigans to the other side of the country, Miami. This game has become dirty dirty dirttttttttyyyyyyyyy. From coaches like Tressel, Mr. Saint, Mr. Integrity, covering up stuff, to slimballs in the prison admitting that they paid for abortions because "the idiot (the dad/player)" Might have wanted to keep it.

Time to cleanse this sport. Destroy Miami. Kill them. And significantly hurt that conference. Only then will they clean up their acts. Also, find someone in the SEC and Big 10 to kill too. Cleanse this sport.

The only way to fix this problem is to hire on more staff to monitor this... AND, to instill fear back into the President, AD, and coaches. Because right now, the NCAA is about as intimidating as John Amechi in kicky's Batman pijamas.

The NCAA should, change it's image to more of Karl Malone swinging elbows or Ray Lewis attacking you from your blind side.

You guys realize that while the Yahoo! article had some good points, a lot of that stuff they have no way of proving and their main source is a man going to jail because his main skill was being able to scheme rich and presumably smart people out of their money. Regardless, read this article.

Yes, it is from a Miami fan, but it's very well written out and has been sent out by Jason Whitlock, Dan Lebatard and several other national authors. It even got the main author of the Yahoo! story (Chris Robinson) to write him an email and say that he wanted to get in contact with him to further discuss the article. So please, before making any more judgemants from whatever Yahoo! and ESPN are saying, read this article.

Oh yeah, and the abortion thing? Pure, and total classess journalism. There is no way to substantiate that claim and in absolutely no court of law would that be allowed. That dumbass didn't even know if the girl was pregnant (if the story is true) and how are we honestly supposed to believe that the stripper/prostitute knew for sure that it was the players baby because obviously he was the only guy she slept with recently because she has strong morals. (sarcasm). Did Miami **** up? Absolutely. Was it as bad as everybody thinks it is? Absolutely not.

Just for an example, one of those receipts is shown with a bill of $83 (I forget the cents in it) and a tip of $15 from Benihana's (fairly nice restaurant). Shapiro said that it was him, Marcus Forston (300 lbs), and 3 other football players (can't remember their names) making a total of 5 people. Now then, we're expected to believe that 5 people, all of them larger than your average human except the midget Shapiro racked up a bill of $83 at a nice restaurant?!! C'mon, that's ********. He has no way to prove this stuff with all of his receipts and he has personally said that he has a vendetta against the University of Miami. Read this article to read up on the "overwhelming" mountain of actual evidence that Yahoo! put out.

How this would affect the rest of the ACC warrants consideration, but I still have to ask: Doesn't it set horrible precedent if a school deserves the death penalty (lets assume Miami does) and the only thing that stops the NCAA from handing it down is the fact that they dont want to damage the other schools in the conference? You may as well go tell every school from a BCS conference that they can cheat their asses off because the system is now officially too big to let them fail.

If the Hurricanes deserve the death penalty, the NCAA should swallow hard and do the right thing. It will help out the game leaps and bounds in the long run. Perhaps there's a way that the other schools in the conference can be compensated for missed games against Miami, etc. I really don't even know if that could be done, but I think anything is better than simply side-stepping the problem because it's convenient.

The article was written by a Miami apologist who doesn't even really qualify as a journalist IMO. Hard to take any of it seriously considering that. Not only that, Lebatard and Whitlock are both huge hacks and Lebatard is based out of Miami so I could easily see him being swayed one way or another. You say it's hard to prove all of the allegations and finish up your post by saying that what Miami has done is not as bad as everybody thinks.

I can't figure out if you're a Miami fan or what. Regardless if abortions, and dinners at Japanese steak houses can be proven, etc. it seems as if there's plenty of evidence to support the allegations of paying players and how it stems back over a LONG period of time. Considering Miami's past history, I don't think people are overreacting.

I think it is just time to let these organizations take the fall. The government should have let the banks fall apart and the auto industry. Miami should be done, period, as far as sports is concerned. Get these untouchables to grow up and accept some ****ing responsibility for once.
