What's new

Michael Beasley

I will say - reluctantly - in defense of Cousins, Cousins is actually a superb physical specimen and is no tweener. One of Beasley's problems immediately (and one that will continue to be there) is how poor his measurements were for a PF (smaller height/length than Wesley Johnson).

He has amazing talent to do a number of things, but he's not and never was a very traditional NBA talent. Cousins is.

.....the Beasley thing would never work for the Jazz. First off, we'd have to bath him in a tub of Drano....just to burn off all those jailhouse tats! Then we'd have to take him to a good barber and let him know that "cornrows" have been out in the NBA for about 4 years now! Then we'd have to give him a brain transplant, because this kids basketball IQ is so low it's not even registering any signs of life!

So Millsap would still have to split minutes at the 4, or do you really think Beasley could slide to the 3?

If it's part of a bigger trade, involving Millsap and bringing back a center or draft pick that could land a top center, then fine, but I don't see how Beasley fits the Jazz right now.

the only way Beasley makes sense is if Boozer already has a deal in place with Miami. he approaches the Jazz and says he's gone but he can do them a favor by agreeing to a S-and-T, if it so happens that the Heat have anything the Jazz want. KOC might decide that getting nothing in return for Boozer is better than getting Beasley.

Miami's incentive is to lop off 5 million dollars from their payroll before signing Boozer. Utah's incentive is to take on 5 million dollars in salary for Beasley whose value they could rehabilitate, and at worst cut him loose after next year (he has no guaranteed dollars after next season.) KOC might think he can get a better player with the MLE for 5 million, but he isn't likely to get a better asset. This all comes down to just how low Beasley's value really is. Boozer has little to do with it. He'll do anything Miami asks him to do.

I don't know...

I also have trouble seeing how he fits in with the Jazz. I also don't know how convinced I am that Beasley is going to make it in the NBA.

Get this deal done if Boozer wants out. Beasley needs a change of scenery and if Boozer is leaving then we might as well do this and take a chance. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

That was probably more of a PR move. I think he got caught with a picture of a bag of weed or something? I doubt he has a "serious" drug problem. He just probably tokes every now and then, and he just did the rehab thing to show fans he is taking his career seriously.

If you read the story it says he was admitted to rehab for substance and "psychological" issues. The guy was making suicidal tweeter posts, among other things. It doesn't matter how physically talented he is if he's a wack job. Who would be in a better position to know this than Miami? Any appearance of value is probably fool's gold.

Would you rather lose Boozer for nothing? A change of scenery could do Beasley very good and we have no idea how he will turn out if he were on this team.

He's on his final year of his rookie contract, isn't he?

Nope, one year at 6.2 million after that. I believe you have to pick up the option the year before the option kicks in, so the Jazz would have to pick up the 11-12 option by Oct. 1. I don't know if Beasley is worth that. And if you don't pick it up, there's no way he'll stay after one year of play. I don't think it's worth it.

If we could get Beasley for cheap I'd say you go for it. He is a talented kid, plus you get the added benefit of knowing he would just drive CJ crazy, which is worth the Miller's paying the luxury tax for me. I'm sure his life is a mess right now, but so what, if you want to build a championship team you take chances.

Picking up a former consensus #1 pick on his rookie deal vs. getting nothing for Boozer is not a risk. It's pure retardation if that opportunity is there and the Jazz don't take it.

And for the record, I'm not sure where Beasley belongs or if he'll be a good player (or and NBA player at all), but it's certainly worrth a shot. Unlike some high draft picks, the hype wasn't just ceiling, he was an amazingly productive player in college and is quite athletic. He might be crazy, oh well, give it a shot. There is no sizable talent on this team once Boozer is gone (with AK rarely showing up and having an expiring contract as well).

Just a quick question. Does Miami even have to do a sign and trade to get Boozer? Don't they have the cap space to sign Boozer outright and keep Beasley?

They have enough space but according to this report, they're trying to dump Beasley for nothing. In that instance, a sign-and-trade would be advantageous for both teams.

OK Thanks If that's the case I say Jazz should take the risk. No one player can destroy a team, but I may be wrong. Beasley had unbelievable freshman college year. Better stats than anyone in the draft this year. There has got to be a way to unlock his incredible talent. He'll have Deron setting him up every game. He should look great with top PG help.
