Mike Conley Contingency Plan

What about Favors/30 for Smart? I know people want to consolidate some of our stuff but I could see us keeping the main pieces and allowing Smart to shave off some minutes from a lot of guys and still maintain the shooting around him and Gobert.

Lol doubt Boston would do that but that would be amazing.

Wright give us a lot of what we want from Smart and Lonzo on the cheap... doesn't have the flair or grit those guys do.

If your big difference maker is the Kevin Love trade I know you want to pitch I will put you on ignore. :)
It’s not a Kevin Love trade. In fact, it’s not even a roster move. But I was just thinking this is the year Love gets a buyout and he apparently loves Utah (the state) and we could get the Lazarus effect that all these other teams got. Maybe.

Yeah, I can't see Boston doing Favors for smart, just brought in Horford.

I'd do a Conley S&T to Boston for Smart for sure.

Yeah, I would trade Clarkson for Smart too. Makes too much sense not to. I don't think Boston has that much interest in Clarkson though.

I could see a S&T of Conley for Smart being more of what Boston would want.
Doable if Conley wants 17M-ish there and wouldn't take it here. They might be worried about another small aging pg. I could see them having interest in either guy.

They already have 3 undersized 5's on the roster with Horford, Williams, and Thompson.

I think sign and trades need to be for 3 years but can't remember.

Think they'd have more interest in Conley. With their roster as constructed if Conley/Horford could stay healthy they could make a run in the East. And if they can't both will be on expiring deals that are moveable next off-season if they wanted to move on and pursue a big name FA.

Celtics get Conley and Favors

Jazz get Smart, Tristan Thompson and a few 2nd rounders

Thompson is an expiring which we then could try to flip with the 2nd rounders elsewhere.

I'd be happy with this. The only issue with Smart is that he is also on the last year of his deal so there's a decent chance he walks next year.

Which GM sees Favors as a positive asset?
He's not positive... its more about is he neutral or how negative is he. I would think he's somewhat negative... but then I remember FA opened last year and the Wiz signed Robin Lopez to 1 year 7M.

If he only had one year left I'd say he's neutral.

Which is why the 2nd rounders or maybe even a future first would be that much more important.

Don't we just have to be under $142M with what we're getting back? So if we moved guys like Thomas and Hughes we'd be at like $140M with Smart's contract coming back.

We have to be under 140.6M and we are sitting at 132.2M with 11 players. Trading Conley and getting back Smart doesn’t work.

This doesn’t work either unless Thompson goes to a third team in the same deal.
