They don't have to. It's not like Lakers are a team that has patterns on O and D or set plays. It's just a franchise mostly, that pays the big bucks to the stars and free them to the playground.

My hope is that Messina is big on loyalty and class, and that he looks at the opportunity to build winners and make his mark on a team where he can have a HUGE impact. If it were me and I looked at the rosters & front office, I'd pick the Jazz all day. He shouldn't mind the weather here...dude lives in Russia.
They had patterns with Phil.
Howard left because he didn't like the patterns he had to follow. He didn't like the PnR.

Messina hasn't been mentioned in connection with the Lakers. The names being bandied about include Kevin Ollie, George Karl, Jeff Van Gundy, Byron Scott, etc.

Good point.
The Lakers didn't consider Kobe's feelings 3 years ago (or whenever it was) when they didn't hire Brian Shaw. Don't think they will give a **** what he says now that he is really falling off.
He has been mentioned because he was an assistant there a year. Pretty much anything you here right now from any team is just going to be rumors based on ties/associations people in the media perceive/now of.

Lol the Lakers have demised horribly since the passing of Buss. Im on the whim to believe the Lakers might be in the hole for a couple of years like Chicago was in 99- thru the early 2000s.

Also, as a player why would you WANT to go to the lakers? Bryant is essentially done, Jim Buss is at the helm and their roster is full of garbage.
